CameraLabs: Fujifilm X-H1 Review – Last X-Trans III Camera?

Kind of interesting that Gordon Laing brings up the likelihood of the Fujifilm X-H1 being the last X-Trans III sensor camera from Fujifilm, maybe he is a reader. It’s pretty well known now that the Fujifilm X-T3 is expected at Photokina 2018 and will require a new sensor as per our limited leaked specs, but we might have a few smaller releases before the big Fujifilm X-T3 announcement.

The very lengthy Camera labs review covers everything you could possibly want to know about the Fujifilm X-H1 including how the camera corrects for IBIS vignetting in software as we predicted and Gordon only getting 3 stops of IBIS instead of the advertised 5.5.  Gordon also has some good points about how the flip up screen helps street shooters more than a more vlogger friendly screen would. Gordon and Doug have a good dialog about the Fujifilm X-H1 with too much to discuss here, but if you like Fujifilm cameras and found the X-T2 lacking chances are the Fujifilm X-H1 fixes all of the complains you might have had about the Fujifilm X-T2.

Unconfirmed Fujifilm to Discontinue ACROS 100 Film October 2018

After Fujifilm announced Fujifilm Neopan 100 ACROS 4 × 5, 8 × 10 and Fuji color NATURA 1600 Film Are Expected To Stop Shipping in 2018 emails and msgs about regular ACROS 100 film being discontinued in October. Casual Photo Phile was the first to report the discontinuation of ACROSS 100 35mm film but based on a paper posted by shoici_aoyama, but it looks like the post has been removed. It’s very likely that Fujifilm is winding down film production now so if you like ACROS 100 film now is the time to start stocking up (Amazon).

Fringer EF/FX Smart Adapter Firmware 1.50 AF-C Performance Improvement

Fringers latest Firmware 1.50 for the Fringer EF/FX Smart Adapter Firmware looks very impressive in the above official AF-C demo video, but there are additional improvements listed below.

2018/3/31 Version 1.50
1. Bug fixed: For some lenses, there is a lag in the viewfinder when start to focus.
2. IS working modes changed for the following lenses to fix the unstable IS issue. Their IS function will always be activated as long as IS switch is on.

1) EF 100/2.8L IS
2) EF 70-200/4L IS
3) EF 70-200/2.8L IS II
4) SIGMA 150-600/5-6.3 OS Contemporary

3. Re-optimized following lenses to improve their PDAF accuracy and AF-C tracking performance:

1) EF 100-400/4.5-5.6L IS II
2) EF 70-200/2.8L IS II

4. Added following lenses to the tested and optimized lens list:

1) SIGMA 24-35/2 Art
2) EF 70-200/2.8L IS II + 1.4X

Fujifilm X-H1 Bug Fix Firmware 1.01 Released

Fujifilm announced a bug a few weeks ago and promised a prompt fix. Today they released the fix in firmware 1.01, which you can download here.

The firmware update Ver.1.01 from Ver.1.00 incorporates the following issues:

  • 1.In the EF (E-FRONT CURTAIN SHUTTER) setting, the warning of “TURN OFF THE CAMERA AND TURN ON AGAIN” could appear in rare cases when the FLICKER REDUCTION setting is ON.
  • 2.Switching the CUSTOM setting can make the ISO AUTO setting return back to default when the ISO AUTO setting is changed.

Artisan Obscura has sticky buttons that can be used with the Fujifilm X-H1. I must say it looks pretty good, but I am not sure if I would use on myself because it might make the grip a little awkward for me.
