Fujifilm Might Continue Producing ACROS Film If They Can Make It Viable

Fujifilm has been discounting their film pretty aggressively throughout the past year, but there might be some hope for Black and White fans. According to itmedia.co.jp Fujifilm is looking into a way to reliably source the materials needed to produce their black and white film after the run on film this year which still continues at B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama, and the many voices that spoke out to save ACROS.

Fujifilm’s primary issue with continuing to produce film at this time seems to be more tightly tied to cost and raw material procurement than a lack of demand, so maybe they will find a way around their stated issues. If not then they could also raise their prices to slow demand and make film more profitable. Either way, these are still early days for Fujifilm looking into saving the format and a lot can happen between now and 2019. We might even see them decided to save more film types if sales remain strong and voices loud. This is almost entirely up to the community at this time, because Fujifilm hasn’t completely divested its self of their film business yet.

Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra-Macro X-Mount Adapter and Ring Light: Updated

Venus Optic released the Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra-Macro a while ago, but not for X-Mount. So I haven’t posted about this lens here, but now Venus Optics sells the Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra-Macro with an X-Mount adapter on their site. I noticed the adapter when looking at their new ring light for the Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra-Macro that was announced today in advance of their new macro lens the Laowa 24mm f/14 (UPDATED: Coming Aug. 1st on Kickstarter). Venus Optics is certainly creating some interesting Macro products for all of us after releasing the extremely wide Laowa 9mm f/2.8 ZERO-D.

Fujifilm X-T100 Brown and Graphite/Dark Silver

It looks like Asia is either getting some special cameras or resalers are modifying them. Shortly after the X-A5 Graphite photos surfaced I was contacted with these two cameras an X-T100 Brown (here) and Graphite (here) that google translate calls dark silver.

DPR: Fujifilm X-T100 Review

DPReview finished reviewing the Fujifilm X-T100 and the camera did respectably well considering its price point. You can read the full review here, but in short, the Fuji X-T100 is not a snappy camera capable of keeping up with moving subjects and don’t expect useful 4k footage. It’s just a good all-around starter camera with exceptional image quality at its price point.

Pros

  • Excellent JPEG quality
  • Sensor has low noise at high ISOs
  • Unique LCD design tilts and flips outward
  • Well-built for the price
  • Built-in 2.36M-dot OLED EVF
  • Third dial encourages experimenting with Film Simulation modes
  • Great battery life
  • USB charging
  • Grip included

Cons

  • Poor autofocus for moving subjects
  • Poor face detection performance
  • Laggy interface
  • Noticeable delay between pressing video record button and start of capture
  • Default JPEG sharpening a bit high
  • Limited customization
  • Poor video quality (4K and 1080p)
  • 4K/15p video not a serious feature
  • Buffer fills quickly when shooting Raw bursts
  • Touchscreen can’t be used for Q Menu
  • Slow and clunky Multi Focus feature
