RAW Power 2.0 Now Available

RAW Power 2.0 is here developed by Nik Bhatt, the former Senior engineer in charge of the photo apps group at Apple while Aperture was in development. RAW Power comes for OSX and iOS and works through the photo’s library on iCloud so everything syncs similar to Lightroom. It’s also on sale for a limited time so don’t miss out if you’re looking for a Lightroom alternative.

RAW Power is still based on Apple’s RAW engine so your RAW files will have to be uncompressed to work, but if you’re looking for a good inexpensive workflow that works on iOS and OSX in a way similar to how Lightroom CC works with the cloud (not Lightroom Classic) then this might be a good single purchase alternative for you.

Sony Published New Sensor Information Including The Fujifilm GFX100S IMX461 Sensor

Sony recently updated their sensor list online and the new listing gives us some interesting details about the 102MP sensor inside of the Fujifilm GFX100S. Sony’s new 102MP sensor is designed to shoot 11/12/14 or 16-bit at around 3fps single shot. The sensor is also designed to scale for a variety of interesting frame rates, that might make the Fujifilm GFX100S a very capable video camera if Fujifilm decides to really max out Sony’s new medium format sensor. Stay tuned for more details coming soon.

Additional Capture One 11 Tutorials and More

Since Phase One added Fujifilm support to Capture One 11 a lot of Fujifilm photographers have decided to give it a try. We covered some of the first tutorials here, but there have been some more since. It’s nice to see how much more detail an application like Capture One can retain compared to Lightroom when sharpening, but other applications like Luminar also retain a lot of detail that Lightroom blurs/worms away. One would think that the introduction of so many great RAW editors would force Adobe to fix their performance and sharpening issues, but I doubt they will until they start to lose money so you might as well give some alternatives a try.

TCSTV and More: Fujifilm GFX50R Reviews

The emphases for Fujifilm GFX50R coverage so far has been around the user experience being different than the Fujifilm GFX50S while retaining all of its image quality, but you shouldn’t expect the GFX to replace your X series camera anytime soon. TCSTV has an interesting take on the GFX calling it “the sledgehammer of cameras,” which is accurate if you’re a fan of image quality. Nothing quite drives home IQ like medium format and the GFX is the only affordable useful system on the market today (The Hasselblad X1D doesn’t compare).

TCSTV emphasizes watching your shutter speed quite a bit in their review, but I think a part of that comes from when photographers get used to IBIS cameras. If you use an IBIS camera regularly it is very easy to be lazy about form, which makes shooting at lower shutter speeds without IBIS practically impossible. I think this is partially why the Fujifilm GFX100S is getting IBIS since many will find it difficult to handhold steadily coming from IBIS bodies. I regularly shoot my GFX with 50mm equivalent focal length lens at around 1/30th handheld and get sharp images, but when I used the Fujifilm X-H1 regularly for a few months I had to increase my GFX minimum shutter speed to  1/125th, so I experienced firsthand how IBIS can make a photograph lazy.

Hopefully, the Fujifilm GFX50R brings new photographers to Fujifilm cameras. I frequently try to share the experience with friends that do not shoot Fujifilm and they always come away impressed. There really isn’t anything quite like the GFX and if you are given the opportunity to use one you will better understand why Fujifilm skipped Full Frame photography altogether.
