Instax Mini LiPlay First Look and Tutorial

The Fujifilm Instax Mini LiPlay is now widely available, but there hasn’t been a lot of coverage of this product. The above review/tutorial and below quick user guide are about as in-depth as anyone has gotten. One feature that is very nice about the Instax Mini LiPlay is the ability to use it as an Instax printer like the SP-1/Sp-2.

Seeing the LiPlay alongside the wide and old Instax mini camera makes me wonder if/when we might find a similarly designed Instax Wide printer/camera combo because Instax mini is a little small for most. Square already has the SQ10/SQ20, but they could get smaller and gain more features too.

Really Right Stuff Doing Something Special For Fujifilm GFX100 Quick Release L-Plate

Really Right Stuff started preorders for their new L-Plate a few weeks ago and now we are getting our first look at its design and it looks fantastic. It looks like RRS is making up for their past GFX50 error by releasing an incredibly innovative L-Plate for the GFX100. RRS has addressed your every need with this new L-Plate from being able to swap the battery and access the ports to enhancing the GFX100 grip that some have complained about.

I might just pick one of these up myself when they become readily available and I recover from my purchase. I have to give credit where credit is due and this is on expensive L-Plate that appears to be worth the asking price.

Fujifilm GFX 100: Birth of a Camera by Cinima5D Part 2

Cinema5D got an inside look at the production of the Fujifilm GFX100 and you can view part one here. Part two takes place in the spring of 2019 with them receiving a prototype camera. Below are excerpts:

  • Had an error the first time they started the prototype camera
  • Went on another factory tour in Taiwan
  • They show the sensor assembly in a clean room
  • Followed by the CMOS and IBIS being assembled and put in the body by hand
  • One person assembles the entire top of the camera
  • All of the buttons and dials are checked by hand
  • It’s kind of interesting they put the adhesive tape on the camera body before applying the leather
  • The first batch of GFX100 produced are shown at the end of the tour then back to Toyko
  • Cinima5D had to wait for a firmware update to shoot their prototype camera
  • Only had the prototype for 12 hours and they were given 3-batteries
  • Lots of preproduction video
  • The camera wasn’t 100% ready, but the potential was already there
  • Coverage of the prep for the launch event
  • Toshihisa Lida was there and said he hoped to get “completely drunk” once the event concluded to release some stress
  • The day of the launch Cinima5D ran into Masazumi Imai right before the announcement and he compared it to giving birth
  • Everyone had some Saki after the event concluded to celebrate

Cambo AC-795 – Actus Bayonet Kit For Fujifilm GFX100

Following the official introduction of the Fujifilm GFX100 on May 23rd, 2019 Cambo is pleased to announce a dedicated interface for mounting, and supporting this new flagship camera in the GFX line of products.

As a result of the different body design compared to the Fujifilm GFX50 series, the bayonet holder for the GFX100 will have a different shape than the existing holder AC-792, and includes an extra riser block for the front standard.

Cambo’s new AC-795, designed as an interchangeable bayonet holder kit, will be compatible with the current Actus-G series.

However, due to the design changes of the Fujifilm GFX100 body, this needs to be positioned on a higher distance to allow enough clearance. This  results in an additional 30mm riser block to be needed for the front standard. As well as an additional spacer that needs to be added on the rear bayonet mount.

Because of this additional flange spacing the Actar-60, and some other wider angle lens options will not be able reach infinity setting with this kit.

NOTE: Alternatively the Fujifilm GFX100 will fit the Actus-GFX unchanged, in portrait orientation only without the need for the additional spacer, but because of the new design the AC-795 is required for landscape orientation.

The interface kit AC-795 will be available shortly and can be pre-ordered as of today from your dealer of choice B&H Photo / Adorama / Amazon
