Laowa 17mm f/4 GFX Zero-D Details and Price Leaks

The Laowa 17mm f/4 GFX Zero-D is expected to come in at $1,249 and it will be the full frame equivalent of a 13.5mm with an angle of view of 113°. All of the details below are from a translation:

Lens features

  1. Fuji medium format native bayonet
No need to transfer, the original Fuji G-mount design, suitable for Fuji FFX medium format system, open up more shooting possibilities for medium format users.
  2. Unchanged “zero” distortion design
The old frog lens continues the ultimate requirement for ultra-wide-angle lenses. As always, it adopts an optical design with near-zero distortion to meet the demanding standards of Fujifilm medium-format users.
  3. round filters for easy shooting
The front of the lens is designed with a non-bulb lens and can be fitted with a circular filter of 86mm diameter for photographers to experience light shooting. In addition to the 86mm round filter, you can also install a 100mm square mirror bracket to enhance the playability of the shot.
  4. super wide close shooting ability
Like other wide-angle lenses of the old frog, the 17mm F4 lens also has excellent close-up ability. The recent shooting distance (image distance) is only 20cm, and the maximum shooting magnification is 0.28 times, which expands the application field of the photographer.
  5. dazzling stars
The lens is designed with five glossy blades that capture 10 brilliant stars.
  6. all-metal tradition, always sticking to
The 17mmF4 lens inherits the quality of the old frog, all metal structure, strong and durable, ensuring the accuracy of assembly and the feel of focusing. Hard-wearing body, reliable shooting partner.

DPRTV: Fujifilm GFX100 First Look

DPRTV posted their early impressions of the Fujifilm GFX100. Below are key points from the video:

  • The camera is large and heavy, but not Canon 1DX Heavy
  • Just over 3 lbs
  • Very comfortable grip
  • The vertical grip isn’t great and it’s an uncomfortable small metal design
  • The camera looks great
  • There might be a rubberized attachment for the vertical grip to make it more comfortable
  • The top and back screen are customizable
  • Top button swaps shutter speed and aperture controls
  • The highest resolution EVF Fujifilm has ever used alongside the highest MP sensor
  • Very slim removable 5.76M dot 0.86x magnification EVF
  • 24x view magnification for focus accuracy
  • Very X-T3 like AF performance
  • 16-bit RAW shoots at 2fps
  • 14-bit RAW is 5fps
  • Worlds first 100MP BSI camera
  • Lots of features to make the camera more stable like an electronic front curtain, well dampened mechanical shutter, and 5.5 stops of IBIS
  • There are a lot of handheld opportunities, but a tripod would be best
  • Dual gain sensor which will give you better high ISO performance
  • Full resolution is 4×3 at 102MP, but you still have beyond full frame resolution if you crop: 1×1 is 72MP, 2×3 is 85MP, 16×9 is 72MP
  • 1/6th of a second scan rate for electronic shutter
  • Rolling shutter can be pretty bad when shooting motion or panning with the electronic shutter
  • GFX100 isn’t great for vlogging, but great for other kinds of video work
  • Shockingly competent at video
  • Internal 10-bit 4:2:0
  • External via mini HDMI 10-bit 4:2:2
  • Eterna, FLog, HLG
  • IBIS is great for stationary video
  • IBIS can get jumpy when quickly panning or tilting
  • Face detect AF works in video, but not as well as X-T3, which could be due to it being preproduction or the lens
  • The video scan rate is much better than photo and it’s using the full sensor, which could be from pixel binning or line skipping
  • The video is good enough if you are out shooting photos, but wouldn’t recommend it as primarily a video camera
  • GFX50S didn’t feel like it could replace a full frame DSLR because things like AF performance simply didn’t compare
  • GFX100 now has all the technology that the GFX50S was missing
  • Shooting on the streets at night with the GFX100 felt like the X-T3
  • GFX100 can handle many different projects but might be better to go Full Frame for sports and action
  • Full review will come when they get production units
