Fujifilm X-T3 Not Being Left Behind – Will Get 1080p240, Improved PDAF AF -6EV, and More Via Firmware Update

EOSHD has reports of a firmware update coming to the X-T3 in their forums, which will feature improved PDAF like the X-T4, along with classic neg film simulation, HDR, and 1080P240. This makes the X-T3 and X-T4 even closer in specs, which should make owners of the X-T3 feel better if they do not need IBIS or a better battery.

Fujifilm X-H2 Survives November Meeting About Its Future

My most reliable source for rumors that told me about Fujifilm having a meeting in November 2019 about the future of the Fujifilm X-H2 has finally gotten back to me with the results from the meeting… and it looks like the X-H line will live on but as a true flagship camera unlike its previous end of generation launch with the X-H1 that left it behind the X-T3 that was released shortly after the launch of the X-H1.

All that is known at this time is that X-H2 will come with a new sensor and likely a new processor or two in the camera along with more videocentric features. Nothing is really known yet and my source says that the leaked IM671AQR could end up instead the Fujifilm X-H2, but nothing has been decided yet.

It’s impossible at this time to tell how much this stumble threw off Fujifilm’s release schedule plus now we have parts issues due to the coronavirus outbreak which Sony has admitted is affecting them (They make Fujifilm’s sensors), but for those waiting for a new processors and sensors from Fujifilm that they will likely be waiting for the X-H2 because it will be a true flagship camera this time around.

So the release schedule will likely become Fujifilm X-H2, Fujifilm X-T5, Fujifilm X-Pro4 and so on with the return of the X-H line at the top. That being taking into consideration we will be waiting for a while since Fujifilm X-T4 and X-Pro3 were just announced recently.

Metabones Introduces Nikon G Lens to Fuji G-mount (GFX) Expander 1.26x

Petersburg, VA, USA, Feb 21, 2020: Metabones® and Caldwell Photographic Inc. are pleased to jointly announce the NF – GFX mount Expander 1.26x. It allows Nikon F mount lenses to be mounted on Fujifilm GFX camera bodies without getting dark and / or soft corners. The magnification factor of 1.26x perfectly matches the image circle of the full-frame Nikon lenses to the medium-format sensor of the GFX series cameras, and therefore the diagonal FOV remains exactly the same.

The optical design consists of 5 elements in 3 groups, incorporating ultra-high index Lanthanumbased optical glass as well as one element made of fused silica, resulting in extremely good performances with professional-grade f/2.8 zoom lenses. For example, a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens becomes a 30-88mm f/3.5 zoom, and a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens becomes an 88-252mm f/3.5 zoom.

Please note that because of the nature of focal extenders, the aperture values decrease by 2/3 of a stop; f/2.8 becomes f/3.5 and f/2 becomes f/2.5. High-speed fixed focal length lenses such as the 50mm f/1.4 will be transformed into a very fast standard lens 63mm f/1.8 for the GFX system.

The GFX mount Expander features Metabones’ unique manual G aperture adjustment mechanism, which has the same angular throw distance as earlier Nikon Ai/AiS lenses, which features a linearized f-stop adjustment as a function of aperture ring adjustment angle. The mechanism is clickless in order to maximize its usefulness to cinematographers.

Availability
Metabones® Nikon G – GFX Expander 1.26x is available right now from the Metabones website and its worldwide dealer network for US$519, and the optic-free version adapter* will be available for US$179, plus shipping and applicable taxes and duties.

Notes:
*Limitation: Both Nikon full-frame and DX lens may NOT have enough coverage for the GFX cameras when used in conjunction with the optic-free adapter (MB_NFG-FG-BM1). Most of the case will result strong vignetting or even black corners.

Fujifilm X-H2?: EOSHD Posted a New Sony IM671AQR APS-C 8k Sensor Yesterday

Yesterday EOSHD posed an interesting article about a new Sony sensor the IM671AQR that they believe will be in the Fujifilm X-H2, but I doubt that is where we will see it. EOSHD also mentions some of the back and forth about the X-H2’s future on other sites, but as far as my sources have told me Fujifilm hasn’t fully decided what to do yet with the line.

The IM671AQR will be 43MP BSI and do 8k 12-bit video with a high-speed readout, stacked DRAM, and up to 16-bit A/D Conversion for stills. This seems like an APS-C a7SIII NEX equivalent chip to me and we know Sony is coming hard for Fujifilm because they started getting more serious about their NEX (APS-C) line of lenses last year.

Fujifilm X-T4 vs X-T3 vs X-Pro3 Spec Sheet Comparison

The Fujifilm X-T4 looks like it is IBIS, faster mechanical shutter, new battery and new filters from the spec sheet. Anything else should be updatable to the Fujifilm X-T3. I am shocked that the buffer hasn’t improved, but maybe the can’t do much more with the X-T3 platform. I am sure this was a reaction to all the demands for IBIS out there, but I wish Fujifilm would have held this camera back for a bigger update.

If you have the X-T2 I think it is worth the upgrade, but if you bought the X-T3 you should be happy with your camera unless you want better battery performance or IBIS.
