DPRTV: Fujifilm X-H2S Review – AF Tracking, Video Performance, Image Quality, and More

DPRTV previously covered the Fujifilm X-H2S using preproduction firmware. Now they guys have a final camera with finalized firmware, and of course, they are impressed like most reviewers. You can read a summary of their findings below or watch the above video.

  • Very easy to manually focus
  • The top screen flickers a little if you have it set to white on black
  • When shooting 40fps electronic shutter AF locks and lossless RAW they were able to get about 150 shots over 4 seconds with an SD card, but the camera slows down a lot when hitting the buffer limit
  • When shooting with a CFexpress B 1530MB/s card, they were able to shoot 180 shots before the camera slowed down to about 20fps for 100 shots before slowing down more, so 280 high-speed shots
  • Fast electronic shutter with minimal dynamic range losses
  • F-Log2 readout 11.5ms, F-Log/Film Sim Readout 6.2ms, Electronic shutter photo readout 6.2ms
  • The camera loses about 1/3 to 1/2 stop of dynamic range with the electronic shutter
  • The video does not suffer from dynamic range loss due to its slower readout speed, which is still faster than the X-T4
  • Fujifilm should let you shoot with the slower electronic shutter to maintain dynamic range
  • Great sensor with great image quality
  • Face/Eye autofocus has improved a lot since the initial review
  • Better to shoot 10-15fps when a subject is coming toward you, and even at 20fps, it is just about perfect, but 40fps will give you less shots in focus than just sticking to 20fps
  • For video subject detection is super quick
  • Will only track subjects it recognizes or subjects that have a box on it; Fujifilm should add a subject lock-on feature
  • You should always shoot FLog2 on this camera
  • IBIS has improved over the X-T4 for video and IS boost gives a very tripod-like level of stabilization
  • ProRes RAW gives you the ability to fully manipulate the file
  • Very comparable to the Pansonic GH6 for video, but it is also an amazing camera for photography
  • The Fujifilm X-H2S is one of the best hybrid cameras ever made
  • Fujifilm should release some more video-centric lenses because the lens line up is a weakness for videography fans
  • This is a flagship camera at a flagship price
  • You can get a larger sensor camera at the price point of the X-H2S, but those cameras have shortcomings, while the X-H2S is a jack of all trades that does everything well and a few things exceptionally well

Map Camera Fujifilm Interview: Cine Products and Tenth Aniversary

Map Camera interviewed Jun Watanabe, Product Planning Group Manager, Imaging Solutions Division on Youtube, and the google translation of the video is a mess, so we have to go on what DC.Life posted about the “interesting parts” of the interview, which is also translated. You can see the untranslated text here and the translated DC.Life text below:

There are no plans to develop a cinema camera at this time.

There are no plans at the moment, but this time the “X-H2S” has improved considerably, including video performance and functions, so first of all, everyone actually used the “X-H2S” and saw the evaluation and reaction. I think

After all, not only “moving” but also “still images” are taken together, and conversely, those who shoot “still images” shoot “moving images”. I feel that hybrid cameras like the “X-H2S” will become a trend in the future, and that hybrid cameras will become mainstream instead of dedicated cinema cameras.

At the moment, there are no plans to develop mount lenses for other companies, and we will focus on in-house mount lenses.

In fact, we are developing lenses for broadcasting and movies, so the “XF18-120mmF4 LM PZ WR” video zoom lens, which we plan to release later, is quite suitable for cinema, and it is one that incorporates our know-how. It is I think we were able to bring out the strengths that we are also involved in in the development of cinema lenses.

As for the different mounts, there are still areas where the lens lineup is lacking and areas where lens performance needs to be improved, so I would like to focus on our own lineup first.

I’m very happy to hear that you’re requesting a mount from another company, or rather, I think it’s appreciated (for Fujinon lenses).

X-mount 10th Anniversary Mr. Watanabe’s Message

Thank you very much for your patronage of our “X series”. From now on, I would like to continue working to create “WOW” products with the development team, including me, so that we can meet everyone’s expectations and say, “I definitely want to buy this.” I would appreciate it if you could. Thank you for your continued support.
