The Fujifilm X-H2S is an impressive camera with a ton of very useful video features that have brought it up to Pansonic GH camera levels of performance. It wasn’t long ago that Fujifilm’s video was a bit of a joke, but Fujifilm has greatly improved its video performance with every generation of camera. Below is a summary of the above video.
- If you’re looking for a capable still camera, the X-H2S is the way to go
- Handling Winner – GH6
- Both are well laid out and comfortable
- The GH6 has more buttons optimized for video out of the box
- GH6 has a fully articulating screen that keeps it away from the inputs
- X-H2S needs configuration for video optimization
- Display Winner – X-H2S
- The Panasonic and X-H2S displace are similar but the GH6 is a little higher resolution
- X-H2S has a top display in addition to a rear one
- The X-H2S has a 5.76M dot EVF and GH6 has a 3.69M dot EVF
- Autofocus Performance Winner – X-H2S
- GH6 is at a disadvantage using CDAF, but it is well controlled
- X-H2S is very good at detecting faces and eyes, but it doesn’t have any generic tracking for subjects
- The X-H2S can get confused and flutter off to the background still
- Video Assist Tool Winner – GH6
- X-H2S has punch in magnifier and peaking along with histogram and F-Log assist
- GH6 brings a lot more to the table with wave forms and vector scopes along with being able to load your own LUTS
- IBIS Stabilization Winner – GH6
- Panasonic GH6 smooths out a lot of micro glitters
- Fujifilm X-H2S has a bit of a jerky look to the stabilization
- Recording Formats Winner – X-H2S
- X-H2S has pages of recording options
- GH6 has what you need but not a lot of flexibility
- Fujifilm doesn’t require an external recorder
- Overall Image Quality Winner – X-H2S
- GH6 has DR boost mode that makes your boost ISO 2000, and it gives you more dynamic range
- X-H2S 14-bit F-Log2, and there is some headroom
- X-H2S has a cleaner picture in the mid-tones
- X-H2S Eterna is a great profile that is very film like
- X-H2S has a better rolling shutter
- GH6 has an advantage for high framerates
- Battery Life – X-H2S
- GH6 battery life is a little worse than the GH5/GH5S with a little over an hr record time
- X-H2S you can get over 2 hours of recording time even with the fan accessory
- Lens Lineup – GH6
- Fujifilm has lot of great lenses, but man have shuddery AF for video
- Panasonic has a lot of great lenses too that are very good for recording video
- Fujifilm X-H2S 5/9
- Panasonic GH6 4/9
- Fujifilm X-H2S is the overall winner, but if you need slow motion the GH6 is the better choice
