Fujifilm Savings Sunday GFX Edition

The Fujifilm GFX100 II has been officially announced so Fujifilm is offering discounts to the Fujifilm GFX100S and GFX50SII, but they stopped discounting the original GFX100. I still prefer the old GFX100 to the new GFX100 II so I will be hanging onto my GFX100 until Fujifilm releases a GFX for me, but I think a lot of GFX100S fans will be upgrading since they found PSAM acceptable.

Capture One 23 (16.2.4) Adds Fujifilm GFX100 II Support and New GF Lenses

Capture One Pro just added support for the Fujifilm GFX100 II along with the new Fujinon GF55mm f/1.7, Fujinon GF110mm f/5.6 Tilt Shift, and Fujinon GF30mm f/5.6 Tilt Shift.

Release highlights
Capture One 23 (16.2.4) is a service release containing multiple bug fixes, additional camera and lens support including Apple iPhone as a tethered capture device (Capture One mobile subscription required) and the brand new Fujifilm GFX100 II.

Fujifilm GFX100II Production Numbers 1,500 Per Month

The monthly production numbers of the Fujifilm GFX100II have been reported as 1,500 a month by newswitch. That’s only 18,000 cameras a year and it makes me wonder how many previous Fujifilm GFX cameras are on the market today.

The first GFX launched a little more than 6 years ago now as of February and if the run rate was similar that would mean there are roughly 100k GFX cameras on the market today. It is not likely that Fujifilm has always had a run rate of 1,500 cameras a month though so a more realistic estimate is probably somewhere between 50k to 75k GFX cameras since the launch of the GFX50S in February of 2017. That’s not a lot of cameras, but it is a lot of medium format cameras.

Fujifilm GFX100II Video Information: Fan Performance, Video Formats, Resolutions, Codecs, and More

The Fujifilm GFX100II live blog was very eventful. You can catch up on the live blog here and the post-launch coverage here. There is also a new GFX roadmap here. The overall theme of the Fujifilm GFX100II seems to be a very video-centric one so I collected all the launch details here for those interested in the new emphases. The Fujifilm GFX100II will record for a very long time in almost any environment, but if you need to do long-form recording in an environment over 25 degrees Celsius or 77 degrees Fahrenheit then the cooling fan might be a good idea.

From the announcement it sounds like the GFX100II will keep users from picking a bad format or codec as long as the lens type is set in advance of picking a format because the camera will limit the options. As for video Codecs, all of them will work on fast SD cards except for ProRes which requires a CFExpress card.

Fujifilm GFX Size Comparison: GFX100II, GFX100S, GFX100, GFX50SII, GFX50S, and GFX50R

Camera size has the GFX100II listed now so I figured the above comparison of GFX body types might be of interest and you can go here to further manipulate the comparison. It’s surprising that the GFX100II is more similar to the GFX100 without a grip than it is to the GFX100S, GFX50SII (same body as the GFX100S), GFX50S, and GFX50R. I still prefer the GFX50S design to all others, but they need to get rid of the heatsink hump in the back.

Fujifilm should consider doing a 100RII camera with the dials from the GFX50S because that would get me to upgrade from the GFX100 since the GFX100II is poorly laid out for a photographer with my preferences.
