Newly developed 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lens “FUJINON UA22x4.8BERD”
A compact and lightweight body measuring 252mm in length and weighing 2.2kg, it offers 4.8mm wide-angle shooting and 22x zoom.
Active in a variety of scenes, including news reporting, studio photography, and sports broadcasting
FUJIFILM Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yoshikazu Goto) has developed the FUJINON UA22x4.8BERD (hereinafter “UA22x4.8”), a highly mobile and versatile 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lens that covers a wide range of focal lengths from wide-angle to telephoto. The UA22x4.8 is compatible with broadcast cameras equipped with 2/3-inch sensors, and boasts a 4.8mm wide-angle shooting and a high 22x magnification in a compact and lightweight body measuring approximately 252mm in length and weighing approximately 2.2kg. Its functionality makes it ideal for a variety of scenarios, from news coverage requiring mobility and studio shooting to sports broadcasts where a sense of realism is required. Fujifilm plans to release the UA22x4.8 as a new addition to its lineup of 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lenses in spring 2026. The UA22x4.8 will be exhibited as a reference model at IBC2025, the international broadcasting equipment exhibition to be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from September 12th to 15th, 2025.
In professional filming environments such as news reporting, studio photography, and sports broadcasts, there is steady demand for a versatile zoom lens that can cover a wide range of focal lengths from wide-angle to telephoto. In response to this need, Fujifilm released the FUJINON UA18x5.5BERD (hereinafter “UA18x5.5”), a broadcast zoom lens, in 2017. It has been well-received for its compact, lightweight design and versatile focal length coverage. The newly developed UA22x4.8 inherits the UA18x5.5’s distinctive features of compactness and a wide range of focal lengths, including wide-angle, while further enhancing its functionality and expressive power. By utilizing improved lens processing technology and achieving a design that combines robustness and lightness, the new lens achieves a compact, lightweight body weighing just 2.2 kg, while minimizing the weight and size increase compared to the previous UA18x5.5. This reduces the burden of long-term shooting when carrying the camera on your shoulder. Furthermore, while the UA18x5.5 has a focal length of 5.5mm to 100mm, the UA22x4.8 has a wider focal length range of 4.8mm to 106mm. The wider wide-angle range makes it suitable for capturing immersive scenes in small indoor spaces and sports events.
Over the years, we have been developing and providing broadcast lenses that meet the detailed needs of camera operators, and in 2015 we released the world’s first 4K-compatible broadcast lens. We also have a lineup of 8K-compatible broadcast lenses, and have been leading the way in improving video quality. We will continue to develop and provide high-performance lenses and accessories that support comfortable filming to meet the diversifying needs of video production sites.
Note
1. Product name
Broadcast zoom lens “FUJINON UA22x4.8BERD”
2. Main Features
(1) A highly mobile lens that covers a wide angle of 4.8mm and a high-magnification 22x zoom
- This high-magnification 22x zoom lens covers everything from a wide-angle 4.8mm for dynamic shooting to a telephoto range of 106mm. It can capture a wide variety of scenes with just one lens, making it a powerful tool for a variety of shooting situations, including news reports, studio shoots, and live sports broadcasts.
- With a total length of approximately 252mm and a weight of approximately 2.2kg, the lightweight and compact design makes it easy to carry and reduces the burden of shoulder-carrying the camera.
(2) High optical performance compatible with 4K throughout the entire zoom range
- Utilizing our proprietary optical simulation technology, we minimize aberrations, such as loss of resolution at the periphery of the image and color bleeding, to achieve high-quality 4K image quality across the entire zoom range. Furthermore, our proprietary multi-layer coating process, “HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating),” enhances light transmittance and color reproduction. By utilizing these characteristics, we can minimize blackout and highlight blowout, enabling “HDR (High Dynamic Range)” shooting that is close to what the naked eye sees. Rich gradation is reproduced even in scenes with extreme contrasts, such as a stadium at dusk.
(3) Features that support comfortable shooting
- The minimum focusing distance of 0.4m across the entire zoom range allows for close-up photography, and combined with the wide-angle of 4.8mm, it expands the scope of photography in limited spaces.
- The camera comes standard with a 16-bit encoder that can output high-resolution lens data such as zoom and focus position information. This allows it to be linked to a variety of systems, such as a virtual studio that combines CG images with live footage.
