Image Resouces has a lengthy interview with Managers from Fujifilm that you can read in full here, or you can check out our bullet points from the interview below to save time:
- SNR and Dynamic Range of X-H2/X-H2S
- SNR was improved by rearranging the pixel layout so that the pixels can hold more electrons before being saturated
- 1/180,000 second shutter speed
- The new sensor allows for precision electronic shutter control rest and readout
- HR pixel-shift
- High-resolution pixel shift photos can only be assembled on the computer at this time.
- Fujifilm X-H2/X-H2S Processor
- The Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2S use exactly the same processor
- Blackout-free EVF without stacked sensor
- The X-H2 displays live-view images at 120 fps using skipped reading and the X-H2S can display 120 fps full pixel count
- Why no 8k 60P?
- The sensor Fujifilm is using is limited to 8k 30p
- Frame cropping when shooting 20fps
- Shooting at 20fps requires a 1.29x crop that provides a 24MP image
- Digital IS crop
- The X-H2 crops 10% for digital IS
- Every lens released in 2021 was designed for 40MP (XF18, XF23, XF33)
- XF56mm f/1.2 V1 70cm focus distance
- Fujifilm could have made the V1 lens match the V2 lenses 50cm focus distance, but the image quality wouldn’t have been up
- XF56mm f/1.2 v2 Improved Bokeh
- The new optical design might have had an impact on bokeh, but the main goal was to reduce aberrations and increase sharpness, but the 11-blade aperture was designed to create pleasing bokeh
- XF56mm f/1.2 v2 aperture and focus element movement
- The elements and aperture move in unison which improves minimal focus distance and image quality at close range
- XF56mm f/1.2 v2 120-gram focus group and AF speed
- The AF speed of the new lens is the same as the old due to newer more powerful DC motors and a better lens drive algorithm
- Fujifilm’s original lenses were not weather-resistant, but all of their modern lenses have been and will continue to be
- How is the GF20-35mm so light and compact
- Fujifilm used the same small-size optical system in the GF35-70mm to achieve the lightweight
- The internal zoom design also made it easy to carry
- The single complex cam design also allowed for the reduction of weight and diameter
- 110mm tilt-shift surprise
- Fujifilm’s research found that there was a need for longer focal-length tilt-shift lenses so they decided to work on one
- The GF30mm tilt shift is great for architecture and the GF110mm is good for fashion
