Medium format/Large format cameras have a look to them that APS-C/Full Frame can’t really match, but they aren’t for everyone largely due to the cost and weight of them. Above Bastiaan Woudt talks about some of the reasons he uses medium format cameras and why he moved from Phase One to the Fujifilm GFX100. Below is a summary of his video:

- The downside of most medium format cameras is how heavy and expensive they are
- Bastiaan Woudt usually shoots in the studio, but he has been traveling with his cameras more to get the maximum image quality
- Dragging his camera around was difficult and the Phase One is sensitive to dust
- These downsides made him start looking around for a new camera and the GFX100 was out so he borrowed it
- Bastiaan Woudt didn’t want to give up any quality or to switch brands, but after side by side blind testing he was convinced to switch
- GFX100 weighs half the Phase One and this is the main reason he switched
- GFX100 is like a Medium Format camera in a DSLR body
- The camera feels perfect
- Phase One would have 4 out of 10 shots come out great
- GFX100 has 8 out of 10 shots in perfect focus to the degree he wants even in low light
- IBIS works really well for handheld shots down to 1/50th a second and 95% of the things he does are handheld
- Bastiaan Woudt can nail some shots with GFX100 that Phase One just cant thanks to IBIS
- Dual SD cards is very nice
- File sizes are enormous with 102MP
- You might need more storage if you buy a GFX100
- Flip-up screen isn’t very useful
- The optional top-down viewfinder is very useful for interior work
- Bastiaan Woudt started with Sony/Canon/Leica/Hasselblad/Phase One and is now shooting Fujifilm
- He also loves his Leica is was the first camera he bought with earnings from photography
