If there was any lingering doubt that Fujifilm is serious about high-end digital cinema, the industry has officially spoken. The Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 just secured a highly coveted Product of the Year award at the 2026 NAB Show in Las Vegas! Following up on the massive news from January when the camera earned its official IMAX Certification, this NAB win cements the GFX ETERNA 55 as an absolute powerhouse and one of the most exciting releases we’ve ever seen for the G-Mount ecosystem.
Why the ETERNA 55 is Dominating 2026
Fujifilm didn’t just put a GFX100 II sensor in a boxy body; they engineered a true cinema camera from the ground up. The “55” in its name is a nod to its massive 55mm diagonal sensor (44x33mm)—giving filmmakers a canvas roughly 1.7x larger than standard 35mm full-frame.
Here are some standout features that impressed the judges on the NAB show floor:
- 4:3 Open Gate Recording: The camera utilizes the full 32.71mm height of the sensor. This is an absolute dream for true anamorphic shooters and is exactly the feature that secured the camera’s IMAX certification.
- Built-in Electronic Variable ND Filter: A massive engineering feat for a sensor this large. It offers visually stepless adjustments from ND 0.6 to 2.1 (two to seven stops) in precise 0.015 increments, meaning no more fumbling with matte boxes just to adjust exposure on the fly.
- Filmmaker-Optimized OLPF: An Optical Low-Pass Filter explicitly designed to eliminate moiré and false colors, making it perfectly suited for modern virtual production and LED volume stages.
- Dual Base ISO & F-Log2 C: Boasting base ISOs of 800 and 3200 alongside the expansive F-Log2 C gamma profile, delivering an incredible 14+ stops of dynamic range.
- G-Mount to PL-Mount Versatility: It ships natively with the G-Mount—giving you access to spectacular GF lenses like the new power-zoom G 32-90mm—but also includes an ARRI PL-mount adapter right in the box for mounting classic high-end cinema glass.
A Massive Win for the Fuji Ecosystem
This award is a huge milestone. While we have known about the incredible video capabilities of X and GFX series cameras for years, the GFX ETERNA 55 represents Fujifilm fully planting its flag in Hollywood. Between the 3D LUT support for legendary Film Simulations (yes, you can monitor classic ETERNA, REALA ACE, and ACROS right on set) and native Apple ProRes internal recording, the workflow is as beautiful as the renowned color science. It’s always good to see Fujifilm recognized for creating tools without compromise for serious storytellers.
