CineD recently interviewed Fujifilm Managers about the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA at CP+ 2025. You can watch the full interview above or check out our summary, and don’t forget my follow-up below:
- This Fujifilm GFX ETERNA is Fujifilm’s first digital filmmaking camera
- The X and GFX series are mainly for stills, but Fujifilm does have hybrid cameras
- The name ETERNA signifies that it is a cinema camera
- Fujifilm has made cinema cameras for years
- Fujifilm has a working sample at the show
- Fujifilm has been following what the fans are saying about the GFX ETERNA and what they are willing to pay
- Fujifilm GFX ETERNA will be in 2025, and they do not have an exact price yet, but they hope people can own and rent the camera
- GFX100II is capible for cinimatography
- The Fujifilm GFX ETERNA has an open gate 4:3 and is designed for 16:9
- Fujifilm will have modes to use the full sensor
- Rolling shutter speed depends on the mode you are in, like the GFX100II
- Fujifilm is making sure there will be no issue with the shutter
- The minimum rolling shutter will be 15ms in the 16:9 4k mode
- F-Log 2C was developed for the GFX100II, but it was developed for the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA
- What enhances the GFX100II will enhance the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA
- The Fujifilm GFX ETERNA will come with a newly developed monitor by Fujifilm that is a 5-inch touch monitor
- Fujifilm has had requests for a viewfinder, and they are considering how to address concerns
- Fujifilm will be ready to tell us more about the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA around NAB
- The Fujifilm GFX ETERNA is the first in a family of cameras, but they will not be talking about those cameras unless the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA does well
- The GFX sensor in the camera will have a dual base ISO of ISO800 and ISO3200
- Fujifilm managers are very busy developing cameras for us, even though they are a small team
- Fujifilm keeps its platforms similar to make it efficient to develop products since they are dealing with a small team
- They have a 5th-generation processor and image sensor platform they are comfortable dealing with, and the teams are well aware of what others are working on
- It takes Fujifilm a few years to develop a camera
- Fujifilm adjusts to market needs as much as possible, and they will stop development and change to something else if necessary, but this rarely happens
- Most of Fujifilm’s digital cameras have been well accepted, and they try not to “fix” anything too early
- The Fujifilm GFX ETERNA has been challenging to develop, but it should be safely done this year
Johnny certainly pulled some interesting details out of the Fujifilm managers, giving us a peek behind the curtain of Fujifilm’s development. I do think it is interesting that Fujifilm could release ETERNA vlogging cameras soon like Sony has if the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA does well. It seems most camera manufacturers start with high-end cameras like the Sony FX line and then work their way down into vlogging cameras. Fujifilm ETERNA cameras certainly have a lot of potential in my eyes.
