Sigma announced the release of the Sigma 16mm, 30mm, 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lenses earlier today, but the launch day press also mentions that the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary will be coming in the future as it was first predicted here. It’s pretty obvious that third-party lens manufacturers have decided to develop primarily for mirrorless Sony cameras since they dominate the mirrorless market, for now, but that could change as Canon and Nikon mirrorless grow. This doesn’t extend to manual lens design, but AF lenses are significantly more expensive and difficult to design so manufacturers will want to optimize for their highest volume mount before trying to optimize for other mounts.
