TCSTV posted its review of the Laowa Argus 33mm f/0.95 CF APO and while they started off not liking it they grew to appreciate the characteristics of the lens.
- About 50mm equivalent
- Very substantial lens at 590g
- Quite a bit of glass in this lens
- Manual focus lens with nice grip
- Internal focusing
- 62mm filter thread
- Very nice square lens hood that can be removed with a clip-on lens cap that can fall off kind of easy
- 9 bladed circular aperture that gives you nice smooth bokeh
- Clickless aperture ring
- Video guys love clickless aperture, but photographers do not like it
- There are cheap and expensive 0.95 out there but Lawoa designed their lens to handle chromatic aberration
- There are three ultra-high dispersion elements, plus one extra dispersion element, and an APO element
- APO is about controlling chromatic aberration which is the green and purple fringing
- At 0.95 there is some chromatic aberration, but when you stop down it improves quickly
- 0.95 isn’t for everything
- You can shoot as close as 35cm
- Focus peaking on the X-T cameras helps with manual focus
- Shooting at 0.95 takes some time to get the results you want due to how think it is
- The focus has a very long throw that’s almost 300 degrees which is great for video but not so much for photographers
- Not a lot of focus breathing
- At first he felt the lens was a little big and heavy
- After a while, he really liked the results even though it is not the sharpest 0.95 on the market
