Fujinon XF80mm LM OIS WR Macro 1:1 Roundup

The Fujinon XF80mm LM OIS WR Macro 1:1 is getting almost universal praise, with the only weak points being some vignetting in RAW files and swirly bokeh wide open. Both of these issues are basically eliminated at f/8 and higher, which isn’t surprising since Macro lenses are often optimized to be stopped down for depth of field up close. I am still seriously considering this lens and the Fujinon XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR, but I’m waiting to see if I get access to the Falcon Heavy launch in January, because it might cause me to buy the Fujinon XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR again.

I think the swirly bokeh is nice looking. World is full of lenses that produce “standard” bokeh. Swirlies are often the artsy (crappy) lenses and some old timers. Fuji gave here excpetionally high resolution lens with that kind of a bokeh.

    • I kind of like it sometimes too, but the background has to be right. My I really want to pick up some more GFX lenses too, so I’m not going too crazy on XF lenses at the moment. The XF80 is very hard to resist though. I would like to see some work with the teleconverters though.
