Kai Wong: Takes on The Fujifilm GFX 50S and Comes Away Impressed

Just about all of the big vloggers have covered the GFX already, so Kai is a little late but better late than never. Maybe he was waiting for a sale… either way he has plenty of good things to say about the GFX.

  • It’s a lightweight body, but the lens is large
  • Looks like I big X-T2
  • The viewfinder is like having a TV strapped to your eye
  • Tilty flippy screen
  • Lots of X DNA
  • The camera feels familiar
  • Film simulations
  • The design makes sense
  • The manual dials are better than non-descript buttons
  • Film simulations are very good
  • Not X-Tran
  • The colors are lush
  • Contrast-detect AF works much better than the first time he tried it at the photo show
  • Very usable high ISO
  • Fuji Colors are better than anyone else including Canon
  • Files are detailed and rich

Negative

  • Contradetectect AF struggles in low light
  • Maybe too niche
