Fujifilm released a statement about ethical bird photography that I found on weibo. I ran it through an image translator and it did an ok job of explaining Fujifilm’s position, but I think the AI translation below better represents Fujifilm’s statement.
Recently, Fujifilm has noticed that content and disputes related to “bird photography using bait” have appeared on social media platforms. In response, Fujifilm (China) makes the following statement:
- Fujifilm has always been committed to promoting responsible wildlife photography and firmly opposes any photography activities that violate wildlife protection and anti-poaching laws or infringe upon the rights and interests of wildlife.
- The company solemnly declares:
- It firmly opposes any form of unlawful captivity or commercial exploitation of wildlife;
- It explicitly condemns the use of baiting methods to photograph wildlife;
- It calls on all photographers to respect and abide by relevant laws and regulations while cherishing and protecting wildlife.
- Effective immediately, the following measures will be implemented:
- A comprehensive review of relevant activities involving regional distributors;
- Enhanced training and education for distributors on laws, regulations, and ethical principles regarding wildlife protection;
- A prohibition on the promotion or publication of any wildlife photography content obtained through illegal or improper means.
- Fujifilm will continue to promote eco-friendly photography practices, encouraging photographers and users to:
- Conduct wildlife observations and photography in natural, non-intrusive settings;
- Maintain a safe distance to avoid disrupting the normal lives of wildlife;
- Follow the “Code of Ethics for Nature Photography.”
Fujifilm looks forward to working together with bird enthusiasts, photographers, and other wildlife lovers to protect wildlife, make the lens a recorder of nature’s beauty, and serve as an important tool for promoting ecological awareness.
