Fujifilm GFX 50S: Reviews, Lenses, Copyright, And More

Sharing photography online in a way we can all appreciate, but respect is difficult and I came across a fellow GFX photographer that is giving up… Paul Caldwell quit a competing GFX group after a group of trolls didn’t like his new approach to sharing his work. He isn’t the first photographer to have work stolen and he won’t be the last. It’s up to each of us to exercise our rights though… even though I don’t make a living off my work I still have to file a few take down notices a month due to the use of my images (mainly product shots), which can be incredibly annoying. While it can be difficult to get financial recourse if you’re not a lawyer, the DMCA does offer us a lot of protection if you go through Google/Facebook/Instagram/etc… and present the proper evidence.

One of the main reason I do not present images here from our GFX group is that I don’t want a ton of images being indexed on Google without any form of protection. This isn’t really a problem in our private group since google can’t look within the group, but Facebook has its own set of rules and standards you can look into. FujiAddict and our sister sites do our best to respect copyright owners rights to the best of our ability while providing you with the latest Fujifilm specific news.

MirrorLessons: Fujifilm X-T20 Fast 5 Review

Most photographers could probably produce all of their work on one or two Fujifilm X-T20s because they are basicly mini Fujifilm X-T2s. Features like weather sealing, dual SD card slots, and customizable AF are probably the most important features missing from the X-T20 and many photographers today use Sony cameras that do not have any of those but cost more money and do not perform nearly as well. The X-T20 also makes a great 2nd camera for those that already own an X-T2, but don’t want to purchase a 2nd X-T2. Mirrorlessons cover the following details in their brief review:

  • Shares same sensor and AF system as X-T2
  • Uses latest 24MP X-Trans Sensor
  • Good image quality up to 12,800
  • Less purple flair and green artifacts than X-T2
  • When using JPEG’s less green artifacts when setting WB manually
  • Excellent single point AF
  • Shoot up to 8fps mechanical shutter and 14fps electronic shutter
  • Battery life is good, but better if you are not in performance mode
  • Designed to be easy to use
  • Very small and light, which might make it too small for big hands
  • No weather sealing
  • The tilting touch screen is precise and responsive
  • The EVF is very good, but smaller than X-T1 and X-T2
  • 1080p video is very good, but 4k video is not very good
  • 4k video is limited to 10 min and 1080p is limited to 15 min

Mirrorlessons seems to be generally impressed with the amount of camera you get for the money. It seems you really can’t go wrong with cameras produced for this camera generation from Fujifilm.

Attendees Engage in Discussions on Future Optical Design and Get Hands-Onwith Cabrio and MK Zooms

Wayne, N.J., August 2, 2017 – As part of the company’s overall education initiative, the Optical Devices Division of FUJIFILM is currently conducting “Lunch & Learn Lenses” events in cities across North and South America. Each “Lunch & Learn Lenses” is an informal discussion over lunch with representatives from FUJIFILM that provides attendees with an opportunity to give insight into what future lens innovations they’d like to see.

“We’ll hold discussions where all sorts of questions about optics are raised, some specific to our lens design and some more of an industry-wide discussion,” explained Tom Fletcher, Director of Sales, FUJIFILM Optical Devices Division. “We ask questions about what image size coverage they’d like to see, what focal lengths, what T-stop, anamorphic or spherical, do they prefer images with more character(taste) or a clean look, and what are the benefits regarding primes versus zooms. It’s always an extremely engaging conversation and one that proves of immense value in our own product development. We’re seeing more people sign up and participate in these events as we hold them in new cities across the country.”

In addition to the optics discussions, the latest FUJINON lenses are available for attendees to try out. At each event, the recently released FUJINON MK50-135mm T2.9 zoom and MK18-55mm T2.9 zoom, along with the Cabrio 20-120mm T3.5 zoom, will be on hand.

K&F Fujifilm GFX Adapters

K&F is developing adapters for the Fujifilm GFX for Canon EF, Nikon F, Yashika Contax, Minolta MD · MC | SR, Leica R, Pentax K, Olympus OM, and M42 lenses. The mount will be made of brass on both sides and the suggested retail price is 10,500 yen, excluding tax.

Cambo Actus Mini Review

The Cambo Actus Mini is a very portable option for those looking for portable bellows for their Fujifilm camera. The Cambo lets you Tilt/Swing/Shift your body up/down and side/side, which allows for unique composition that can’t be achieved with a regular lens. On the Fujifilm X-T2 you can use focus peaking, which makes using the Cambo Mini very easy to use compared to traditional view cameras. Many photographers today aren’t familiar with view cameras, but Cambo is making it very easy for photographers to get back into them. You can find Cambo products at B&H Photo.

Fujifilm E-FX500 Reviews and More

I have received a lot of questions about flashes for the Fujifilm GFX 50S lately and HSS. It’s important to realize that the GFX operates with Fujifilm compatible flashes exactly like the X-T2 does, which is probably why Fujifilm recently updated their E-FX500 firmware update announcement. There are no reported instances of incompatibility, so if it works on X-T2 it should work on the GFX.

There also hasn’t been a lot of E-FX500 coverage compared to flashes like the Godox system or Nissin, which is probably because the EF-X500 is a little expensive and lacks radio communication. If you are really concerned about compatibility going forward Fujifilms E-FX500 system is probably the best investment, but Godox and Nissin have very compelling options today.
