Fujifilm UK Beginners Guides

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q85_0bJybYM

Fujifilm UK began a series of videos for beginners last year to help new Fujifilm camera owners become comfortable with their equipment and it’s a good place for people new to Fujifilm to get started. There has been a big uptick in people joining out groups lately, which is hopefully due to them receiving Fujifilm cameras over the holidays. These videos are useful for all Fujifilm cameras and lenses.

There is a lot of content here to digest and Fujifilm UK probably hasn’t completed this series yet, but if you have questions you can always reach out on FujiAddict or in our groups. In 2018 I am going to make an effort to share more learning resources as I come across them because my interactions with readers have largely been to answer camera related questions that they might be embarrassed to ask publicly.

As I said in my previous post I want to encourage readers to have their best camera with them at all times and to encourage people around them to do the same, because camera phones simply don’t compare, especially when lighting conditions are less than ideal. Grabbing a Fujifilm X100F or X-E3 as you go out the door isn’t very hard to do and they are why I owned the cameras in the past. Let’s encourage better photography in every way we can in 2018 by helping each other understand what we are doing wrong and right in a productive way.

FujiAddict Celebrities 2017 and Looks Forward to 2018

2017 was a great year across the Addict sites thanks to readers and tipsters with FujiAddict leading the way. We doubled in size this year and hope to double in size again in 2018 with your help, so keep liking and sharing. Blogging about photography and shooting with the photographers that I have met along the way has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional life and I hope to do a lot more of it in 2018.

The community that we built on Facebook in 2017 is a great asset full of helpful members and great photos from just about every camera type you can think of thanks to our close partnership with Nikonrumors/Photorumors/Leicarumors/Pentaxrumors that will continue paying dividends going forward. Once again the Fujifilm GFX Owners group is by far our largest Addict group, with a variety of working professionals actively posting in it daily and I can’t thank them enough. Our communities have remained very professional and cordial since it was founded with members willing to help photographers of all skill levels become better at the craft of photography.

Of course, SonyAddict is growing nicely too, but more so towards the end of 2017, due to the release of the innovative Sony a9 and very desirable Sony a7RIII. It’s hard to say how these two cameras will affect Fujifilms momentum going forward, especially since Fujifilm has the X-H1 and X-T3 on the horizon, but both companies deserve a lot of respect this year. Similarly, 43Addict had a lot of spikes in interest with so many competent compact cameras being released, but the Panasonic GH5 by far was the big winner in 2017 for m43. As of right now, m43 seems to have a very loyal following, but there aren’t many photographers switching to them.

There truly never has been a better time to be in photography and the addict sites represent the companies that are pushing photography technologically forward. I believe true photographers need to amend the old saying that “The best camera is the camera you have with you” to “I should try to have the best camera with me that I can at all times.” I’m pretty sure this would have been the saying in the past if they had access to the cameras that we have today because there are so many great compact and light options. I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings and be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube and join our group’s bellow.

Fujifilm Savings Sunday New Year’s Eve Edition

This is your last chance to save in 2017 and the sale will continue for 6 additional days into 2018 if you want to get a head start on your write-offs for next year. I hope Fujifilm runs this sale again next October because I am sure after the Fujifilm GFX 50R announcement there will be a lot of new GFX users. It would also be great if Fujifilm includes the MK lenses in the sale because the Fujifilm X-H1 will be out with the X-Mount MK lenses by October of next year. I am still debating whether I want to get a X-H1 and/or Fujifilm X-T3, but it will depend if I decided to venture into video in 2018. Fujifilm is really rounding out their professional equipment lineup and I will try to find time to do something with everything they release in 2018 and beyond. Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a good New Year.

Fujifilm GFX 50S ePhotozine Overall Camera of 2017 and Fujifilm X-T20 is DSLR-Style Mirrorless Camera of 2017

This years picks for camera of the year across a variety of blogs/vlogs has largely been political with many wanting to congratulate Nikon for DSLR’s last hurrah, but ePhotozine had the courage to pick the Fujifilm GFX 50S as their camera of the year for 2017. Honestly, I would have a hard time picking between the Fujifilm GFX 50S and Sony a7RIII, which I have been using a lot lately, but the D850 wouldn’t be in the running for me even though it is the best DSLR yet.

The Sony a7RII and Fujifilm GFX 50S are fantastic and are the beginning of things to come in 2018, because the level the a7RIII is able to perform at without having a stacked sensor like the Sony a9 means that there is still a lot of room for Fujifilm to improve the X-H1 and X-T3. If Sony doesn’t share their stacked sensor technology with Fujifilm in 2018 then the Fujifilm X-T3 and X-H1 could still perform at Sony a9 levels, because the Sony a7RIII performs closely enough to the a9 to negate the need for the a9 for most.

The Fujifilm X-T20 also won best DSLR-Style Mirrorless Camera. The Fujifilm X-T20 has actually been on a few short lists for camera of the year since it performs almost as well as the Fujifilm X-T2 for a few hundred fewer dollars and in a smaller package. You can read ePhotozine’s full list of award winners here.
