The Art of Photography: Fujifilm X-T3 Hands-on Review

The Fujifilm X-T3 is beloved by many and there really isn’t much that can be improved at this point but Ted hits them. Below you can find the pros and cons from his video.

Pros

  • Face and Eye detection work well now
  • ISO 160 gives you better dynamic range than previously possible, but it reduced high ISO performance
  • PDAF everywhere
  • Great Image Quality
  • Lower price than the X-T2 when it came out
  • Major upgrade to video
  • 10-bit 4:2:0 internal and 10-bit 4:2:2 external
  • Eterna LUT for F-Log with good high contract control
  • It’s in Panasonic GH5 territory in many ways now
  • High speed shooting up to 30fps with RAW files
  • The 1.25x crop when shooting 30fps works to your advantage because your likely shooting sports and the extra crop will get you closer
  • Video AF works very well
  • Fujifilm finally has a legitimate video camera
  • Great job with power management, but should get the grip just to make it last longer

Cons

  • No Flip Screen
  • No IBIS
  • Still hasn’t caught Sony for AF
  • No tilty flippy selfie screen
  • Could really use a new battery

ON1 2019.1 Released With Fujifilm GFX50R Support

ON1 released their first big update to ON1 2019.1 and it brings with it Fujifilm GFX50R support in addition to other improvements that you can read about below. If you haven’t tried ON1 yet you can purchase a copy here or download a trial.

What’s New in 2019.1 (13.1.0.6264)

ON1 Photo RAW 2019.1 includes improvements suggested by users as well as bug fixes. It is recommended for all users:

  • Improved Focus Stacking — The Focus Stacking algorithms have been improved. This makes the alignment of each photo more accurate and the blending of the photos produces less speckling in the bokeh regions and water. You can also output the results as layers with layer masks so you can tune the results manually. You can also zoom and pan the preview in the Focus Stacking dialog.
  • Portrait Improvements — The accuracy of face finding has been improved. It now finds more small faces and less false faces. You can also delete faces.
  • Masking Improvements — Inverting and copy/pasting masks are now more predictable.
  • Saving layered .ONPhoto files is faster and the resulting file is a little smaller.
  • Adobe® Lightroom® Plug-in Improvements — The Open as layers option now saves the results as a layered PSD or flattened TIF/JPG based on your preferences and round-trip with Lightroom. The migration assistant now migrates the pick flag from Lightroom to the Like hearts in ON1 Photo RAW.
  • Import/Export Keyword List — You can no import and export the keyword list.
  • Zoom & Pan the preview in the HDR Dialog.
  • User suggested improvements — The Crop tool preset is now remembered across photos, You can reset the layer properties, cursors are more precise for plus/minus modes, scroll position is maintained when culling with a filter enabled.
  • Added support for these cameras — Nikon Z 6, Nikon D3500, Sony XH99, Pentax K-1 II, Fujfillm GFX 50R, Leica C-Lux.
  • Other bug fixes and performance improvements
