What We Expect to See From Fujifilm in 2019

Fujifilm had an amazing 2018 and 2019 looks like it will be a good year too. I’m still waiting on more rumors to share for 2019 from my source but decided to put together a list of what we will see and what we might see in 2019.

Picktorial 3.5 Released

Picktorial 3.5 was just released and you can read about some of the changes below like DAM, but it is also bringing a subscription model which might be controversial. I greatly enjoy a lot of these smaller RAW editors myself and I always find it disappointing when they turn to a subscription model like Adobe. I wish companies would stop doing this because it turns off a large portion of users.

DPReview: Fujifilm New Year’s Resolutions

DPReview put together a wishlist article about what they would like to see from each manufacturer in 2019. Their request are pretty well known by now, but their request for an X100 Full-Frame camera in 2019 is the most unlikely. They really should just ask for a medium format X100 with a fixed 35mm f/2.8. Fujifilm might try to create one someday soon and they could make it somewhat compact.

Fujifilm – in 2019 we wish you would…

Make a full-frame X100 / monochrome X100 / 28mm-equiv X100. (We really like the X100).
Continue improving your face and eye-detection autofocus. The X-T3 was a great start.
Make a proper X70 successor. The XF10 doesn’t count.
Refresh your F1.4 primes.
Don’t try to palm us off with 15fps ‘4K video’ ever again. For shame.

Fujifilm X-T3 Takes Home More Top Honors in 2018

Fujifilm had its best year yet with the release of the Fujifilm X-T3 and GFX50R, but the X-T3 largely stole the show this year. Many loved the Fujifilm X-T2, but the X-T3 addresses almost ever shortcoming of the X-T2 in addition to making the camera into a speed demon that rivals the significantly more expensive Sony a9.

I’m surprised the that the Fujifilm GFX50R didn’t make more lists, but the camera still falls into a luxury nitch market like the Fujifilm GFX50S and prices might have to come further down to entice more full frame shooters. This was a tough year to come out on top with the Sony a7III representing some incredible value and Canon/Nikon entering the market, but Fujifilm won a surprising amount of overall camera of the year awards with the X-T3 and I can’t wait to get my hands on a Fujifilm GFX100S in 2019.

Fujifilm GFX 50R Back in Stock Everywhere

The Fujifilm GFX50R has been out of stock pretty much everywhere since it’s launch, but with Adorama sending out in stock notices this morning it looks like most retailers have fulfilled their orders. If you’re waiting on fulfillment from another retailer at this time, B&H Photo, Amazon, and Adorama might be a faster way to get a camera or you can just wait a little longer.
