Fujifilm X-Pro3 New Unique Flip Screen Drawing: Updated

My 100% reliable inside source had a Fujifilm X-Pro3 prototype in hand recently and sent me some drawings explaining how the new flip screen will work. His drawing explains how the new flip screen works and it looks really interesting, but I have already sent him some additional questions to clarify it’s operation. This might not be the final design because it was a sample camera, but it certainly would be an interesting one if it is final.

It looks like the rear screen will just have shooting information on it until you flip it down and then you can use a more traditional screen, which purists will love. This feature really plays into the Fujifilm X-Pro 3 being a different shooting experience than other Fujifilm cameras. Below is some of the text my source sent me.

As you can see,X-pro has one way tilt screen like on my fantastic drawing😉. When you hold the camera (yes I hold a sample X-Pro3), you can see a cover and  run the camera you can also see film simulations on the middle of cover (provia, velvia,CC…)

As I Told you, Xpro3 has only one way tilting screen.Moving from top to bottom and from bottom to top. After you open the cover, you can see LCD screen. No moving from right to left or from left to right (very strange).

It was a sample camera. May be they can change and add motion from right to left or from left to wright on final camera.

As someone has pointed out without taking my post the design is similar to the concept camera seen here and below. Except obviously it will have an EVF/OVF and the small back info screen, unlike this prototype. I also confirmed that the back screen is like the sub-screen on the GFX100 so it will be some type of E-Ink display on the back.

Now Available Metabones Hasselblad V to Fuji G mount (GFX) Speed Booster

The Metabones Hasselblad V-Mount to Fujifilm G-Mount adapter is now available in a speed boost and non-speed boost edition.

Metabones CINE Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x
B&H Photo / Adorama

This CINE Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Adapter from Metabones allows a Hasselblad V-mount lens to be used on a FUJIFILM G-Mount GFX camera. The adapter’s optics help to maximize the connected lens’s apparent angle of view while providing a one-stop increase for the camera over the lens’s aperture range.

Key Features

  • Hasselblad V Lens to G-Mount GFX Body
  • 0.71x APS-C Crop Factor Compensation
  • 1-Stop Increase in Lens Apertures
  • 6 Optical Elements in 4 Groups

Metabones T CINE Adapter
B&H Photo / Adorama

This T CINE Adapter from Metabones allows a Hasselblad V-mount lens to be used on a FUJIFILM G-Mount GFX camera. When an image is taken with the T CINE Adapter, a matte black internal coating minimizes the potential for reflections within the adapter barrel, which could otherwise result in unwanted glare within the image.

Key Features

  • Hasselblad V Lens to G-Mount GFX Body
  • Adapter Interior Minimizes Reflections
  • Locking Mechanism to Secure Lens
  • Brass Mounting Rings

Fujifilm GFX Safely Beats Sony a7RIV PDR: Full Frame Performance is Probably Maxed Out

The Sony a7RIV was launched as a medium format killer, but it turns out that statement was largely hype from a PDR marketing perspective. With Photons to Photos releasing their PDR results it looks like Sony was unable to provide photographers with a leap in PDR performance even though the previous 42MP sensor was used in the Sony a7RII and Sony a7RIII. Sony had plenty of time to improve PDR, but it looks like it has only improved very slightly over the a7RII/a7RIII at low ISO while getting worse at high ISO.

This leads me to the conclusion that Full Frame will not improve much in the future without a big development like BSI, which could also be applied to the larger sensor inside cameras like the GFX since the sensor is now being produced in ever-increasing volume. Fujifilm made a very smart move by staying out of the Full Frame market and getting a head start with larger sensors. I think Canon and Nikon plan to make the jump to a larger sensor too when the technology comes down in price more, which will leave Sony behind if they do not start developing a medium format camera.

One mount to rule them all was a great idea from Sony and I think Canon/Nikon copied their strategy for their mirrorless cameras. It would be a very smart move and we could see medium format cameras from them in the not too distance future if the GFX keeps selling well. Sony still has an advantage against all of the manufactures for growing their market share though. The current price of the Sony a7RIII is unbeatable and it will only get better. If consumers are overly price-conscious we could see a major contraction in the high-end camera market, while having a boom in the low price professional market.

Personally, I would like to see Samsung get back into producing sensor again to maybe end Sony’s camera sensor dominance since they are the only sensor manufacturer to surpass Sony’s performance. Sony has to0 much control over the entire market. I think we might see a little more out of Full Frame sensors in the future if there is a breakthrough like BSI, but large sensors still have room for growth and any technological breakthrough will likely show up in larger sensors even faster now since Fujifilm is selling a decent amount of mirrorless medium format cameras in addition to Hasselblad and Phase One, which sell significantly less.

I’m not going to get into other performance metrics here, but the GFX100 is surprisingly fast and it will get better with time. We can always use more performance to make capturing an image easier, but I never missed a shot with my GFX50S due to speed and the GFX100 is much faster. In short Sony’s AF advantage isn’t enough for me to use a Sony camera over any camera in Fujifilm’s line up at this time.

Fujifilm FPS Program Changes Coming For 2020

As many of you know I have been an FPS member from the start and there have been a lot of rumors about where FPS is going, but most of them are wrong. If you call up FPS they will tell you that the program is changing, but it’s highly unlikely it will ever be free because they do offer a lot of support if you ask for it, in fact, I recently asked for an insert for the case they sent me the other year to fit my GFX100 and not only did they find me one, but they sent me an entire case for free.

So how will the program change next year? FPS told me that they plan on adding X equipment coverage, but they are unsure if it will be at an additional cost or for the same $499 a year that I currently pay. This would certainly be an improvement over the old program, but I would like to see a slight price reduction to $399.

Personally I think FPS wants to do right by us, but unless you pick up the phone and call they can’t do much. I have always enjoyed the customer service they have given me when I take the time to call, but I wish they did more for photographers without us having to ask. It is nice to know in advance that when I renew my membership in 2020 I will have the rest of my Fujifilm equipment covered by FPS because I am not a fan of sending my equipment to third parties for service to save a few bucks.
