Fujifilm X-T4 Extended Spectrum Infrared Digital Camera

The Fujifilm X-T4 Extended Spectrum Infrared Digital Camera can be purchased from B&H Photo if you qualify. This camera would be great for astrophotography work if you can qualify as a professional artist, which is required by the CONFIDENTIAL DOCUMENT that is valid until the end of the year. I have reproduced some of the relevant text from the confidential document’s purchase requirements below:

Infrared and Extended Spectrum Product Dealers are only permitted to sell the Infrared and Extended Spectrum Products to corporate organizations, government entities, professional artists, or institutions (and to professional consultants serving any such organizations or entities), operating in the United States, that intend to use the purchased Infrared and Extended Spectrum Products for forensics, cultural preservation, research and scientific purposes (such as police departments, crime units, biology departments, healthcare organizations, the forensic nursing and medical specialist community, research institutions, etc.) (a “Qualified Buyer”). Additionally, Infrared and Extended Spectrum Product Dealers are permitted to sell the Infrared and Extended Spectrum Products to professional Qualified Buyers and videographers that intend to use the purchased Infrared and Extended Spectrum Products for the creation of fine art. However, notwithstanding this, in no event will sales be made to, or the Infrared and Extended Spectrum Products be provided to, any third parties which intend to, or are reasonably likely to, use such Infrared and Extended Spectrum Products in violation of the Prohibited uses of the equipment as outlined below.

PROHIBITED USES OF THE INFRARED AND EXTENDED SPECTRUM PRODUCTS. Qualified buyer acknowledges that because of its unique features, the Infrared and Extended Spectrum Products could be used in illicit, immoral, indecent, pornographic, and otherwise illegal ways, to create illicit or nefarious images. Qualified Buyer agrees only to use such Products and to ensure such Products are only used, in connection with the authorized applications herein mentioned, and for no other purpose, and Qualified Buyer specifically agrees (without limitation) not to use the Infrared and Extended Spectrum Products (or permit others to use such Products) to take photographs or record video of nudity, sexual activities or otherwise images of a sexual nature and to take photographs or record video with such Products only as specifically contemplated by Fujifilm in connection with the aforementioned applications. Qualified Buyer agrees that in the event of Qualified Buyer’s breach of this provision, Fujifilm will be directly, materially and irreparably damaged with the level of such damages being difficult to determine. Accordingly, Qualified Buyer agrees that in the event of any such improper use of the Infrared and Extended Spectrum Products, Fujifilm will be entitled to obtain an immediate injunction preventing the use of any images or video resulting from such improper use, without the need to prove special damages or to post a bond of any type.

The text sounds like it should be pretty easy to qualify for this camera if you want one for the production of artistic work. These cameras are generally not listed for very long and the confidential document expiring at the end of the year might be an indication of how long the Fujifilm X-T4 Extended Spectrum Infrared Digital Camera will be available.

Tamron BIG ZOOM Patents Found

A few days ago we shared a rumor of an upcoming big Tamron zoom lens and now we have some leaked patents that may be related.

Tamron 400-1000mm F10-11.5 and 250-700mm F6.5-13 Patents

overview

  • [Publication number] P2024100570
  • [Release date] 2024-07-26
  • [Name of invention] Zoom lens and imaging device
  • [Application date] 2023-01-16
  • [Applicant]
    [Identification number] 000133227
[Name or company name] Tamron Co., Ltd.
  • [Background Art]
    [0002]
In recent years, imaging devices using solid-state imaging elements such as digital still cameras have become widespread. Accordingly, the focal length of optical systems has become longer, and so-called telephoto zoom lenses or imaging device systems including telephoto zoom lenses, which have a focal length of more than 80 mm in 35 mm equivalent, have rapidly become widespread. Lenses that are small and lightweight while maintaining high resolution by having a diffractive optical element (hereinafter also referred to as “DOE”) in the zoom range of the zoom lens have been considered.
  • [0007]
However, in the zoom lens described in Patent Document 1, the weight of the first lens group is large, and weight reduction is required. In addition, the zoom lens described in Patent Document 1 has a problem that the balance with the weight on the image side is poor, and image shaking such as hand shake is likely to occur when shooting on the telephoto side. In addition, in the zoom lens described in Patent Document 2, although the DOE is arranged on the image side in the first lens group, the first lens group is very thin, and the diffractive surface of the DOE is located at a position close to the lens surface of the first lens group closest to the object side with respect to the total optical length. In the zoom lens described in Patent Document 3, the diffractive surface of the DOE is arranged on the object side in the first lens group. Therefore, the zoom lens described in Patent Document 2 and the optical system described in Patent Document 3 have a problem that measures against stray light flare are insufficient.
  • An object
of one aspect of the present invention is to provide a zoom lens and an imaging apparatus that are small, lightweight, and have high optical performance with reduced stray light flare.

Example 1

  • Focal length: 411.754-970.006
  • F value: 10.342-11.490
  • Half angle of view: 2.925-1.243
  • Image height: 21.633

Example 3

  • Focal length: 250.000-710.730
  • F-score: 6.579-12.917
  • Half angle of view: 4.992-1.738
  • Image height: 21.633
