FUJIFILM Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yoshikazu Goto) will release the instax mini Evo Cinema ™ (hereinafter referred to as “mini Evo Cinema”), a new model in the instax ™ “Cheki” hybrid instant camera “Evo Series ,” on January 30, 2026.


The “Evo Series” is a hybrid instant camera that allows you to shoot and print your favorite images while viewing the monitor on the back of the camera, as well as create an immersive experience with a variety of effects. The newly released “mini Evo Cinema” can capture video in addition to still images. This instant camera converts video data into a QR code *1 and then turns it into an Instax Print ™ along with still images extracted from the video, allowing you to “hand over” your video. By converting video into Instax Print ™ , you can not only preserve various moments spent with loved ones, but also easily review the video at any time via the QR code. Another new feature is “Zidial ™,” which allows you to experience effects inspired by various eras . Choose from 10 Zidial ™ effects , including “1960,” inspired by 8mm film cameras . Each effect can be adjusted in 10 levels, allowing for a total of 100 different effects. These effects, which capture the unique flavor of each era, allow you to capture extraordinary and special videos and still images, as if you’ve traveled back in time. The camera’s vertical grip style is reminiscent of the Fujica Single-8, an 8mm camera released by Fujifilm in 1965. Its meticulous design and analog operation enhance the enjoyment of shooting and printing. OWC Substantial Memory Prices Increasing Coming January 8th

OWC Japan released a statement regarding price increases effective January 8th, citing AI as the cause of a substantial rise in memory prices. These increases will come to America at some point too so if you want to grab some OWC memory before they do, look at their store on Amazon or B&H Photo.

Fujifilm X Half Firmware 1.30 Fixes Multiple Frustrating Bugs

The Fujifilm X-Half has been on sale for a bit now, and I wrote a Mini Review about how much I am enjoying the camera, but it had some bugs left to fix. Well, today Fujifilm announced firmware 1.30, and it appears to address all of my concerns. The firmware update Ver.1.30 from Ver.1.20 incorporates the following issues:

X half New Features Guide: English, Français, Deutsch, Español, Italiano, Nederland, Polski, Svenska, Norsk, Dansk, Pусский, Suomi, 中文简, 中文繁體, 한국어, ภาษาไทย, Arabic

  1. You can make prints from instax™ to connect the instax™ Evo and instax™ LiPlay series.
  2. When [AF MODE] is set to [AREA], you can move the focus frame on the LCD monitor using a swipe gesture.
  3. You can pull the [Frame Advance Lever] to prepare for the next shot even while recording images with [FILM CAMERA MODE].
  4. The movie icon is displayed on the nine-frame playback screen.
  5. Looks & feels of the screen is redesigned to improve the operation for pairing to smartphones.
  6. The [Direct Print] icon is added to the single-frame playback screen.
    When connecting to the instax™ printer, you can print directly through the playback screen just by tapping this icon.
    * For details, refer to No.4 in the New Features Guide.
  7. The operation flow is changed so that if you exit [Film Camera] mode without taking a single photo, you cannot develop the film in the X half app.
  8. Firmware bug fixes
    The following bugs are fixed.
    1)If you pair your smartphone without setting the [AREA SETTING] at initial setup, the date and time for [AREA SETTING] displayed at the next power-on will differ from the date and time of the smartphone getting at pairing.
    2)The preview image is sometimes flicking depending on the brightness of the shooting environment.
    3)Setting anything other than [OFF] in [FACE/EYE DETECTION SETTING] menu, the camera freezes when starting movie recording while looking through the viewfinder.
    4)When enlarging and previewing a 2-in-1 image and swiping left and right, the displayed image may stop at halfway position.
    5)[SHUTTER COUNT] increments unnecessarily.
    6)The charging indicator light remains lit occasionally even after the battery (NP-W126S) is fully charged in the camera body.
    7)Other minor bugs have been fixed.

OL: Fujinon XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR Review – “perfectly usable straight from f/1.4”

Optical Limits posted its full Fujinon XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR review, which you can read in full here or check out the pros/cons below:

The lens is perfectly usable straight from f/1.4, even in the image corners. Stopped down, it is very sharp indeed. Image distortions are only moderate, so auto-correction doesn’t introduce any relevant smearing effects. Lateral CAs are quite low as well. This can’t be said about the native vignetting, but that’s mostly hidden via auto-correction. The bokeh is pretty good for a wide-angle lens.

  1. Nicely sharp for such a lens
  2. Good bokeh
  3. Solid build quality

Cons

  1. The raw vignetting is a bit much
