Disruptive Fujifilm Camera Announcements Coming Soon

Fujistas published an article containing an exciting slide that shows some potential camera announcements coming in May and September 2023. During the Instax Mini 12 announcement in Barcelona, a slide revealing a roadmap for cameras in 2023 indicated four cameras are coming, with the first being available in May. What these four cameras will be is anyone’s guess, and they may be a mix of GFX/X/Instax cameras, so stay tuned.

We expected an X Summit in April, so at least one camera will likely be announced in April at the event that will become available in May. Fujifilm Spain even commented on the slide,” 🫢 From Fujifilm Spain, these four novelties have been described as “disruptive” 😍.” Calling the announcements disruptive makes me think that we might get a GFX with modern Full Frame performance or that Fujifilm might be ready to jump into the rapidly growing vlogging camera market. So stay tuned for leaks because they can’t be far off now.

DPReview is Closing April 10th After Almost 25 Years of Operation

The photography business has been contracting for quite some time now, and it looks like the contraction has claimed its biggest victim yet, DPReview. It’s unfortunate to see them go, and the DPRTV guys will likely start their own channel in the not-too-distant future so I am sure it won’t be the last we hear from the crew at DPR. We wish them the best of luck in the future.

Dear readers,

After nearly 25 years of operation, DPReview will be closing in the near future. This difficult decision is part of the annual operating plan review that our parent company shared earlier this year.

The site will remain active until April 10, and the editorial team is still working on reviews and looking forward to delivering some of our best-ever content.

Everyone on our staff was a reader and fan of DPReview before working here, and we’re grateful for the communities that formed around the site.

Thank you for your support over the years, and we hope you’ll join us in the coming weeks as we celebrate this journey.

Sincerely,
Scott Everett
General Manager – DPReview.com

In anticipation of your questions:

  • What’s the timescale?
The site will be locked, with no further updates made after April 10th 2023. The site will be available in read-only mode for a limited period afterwards.
  • What will happen to my content? You can request a download of all the photos and text you’ve uploaded to the site. This will be available until April 6th, after which we will not be able to complete the request.Click here to request your data. This link will also be available if you click on your account icon at the top of the page.

Update: That didn’t take long

DPR: Fujifilm X-H2 Review – Image Quality is Class Leading

DPR posted its full Fujifilm X-H2 review and gave the camera a Silver Award. You can read the review here, or you can check out the pros/cons below:

ProCon
  • Excellent high-resolution image quality with a wide range of JPEG processing options
  • Excellent Raw dynamic range
  • 160MP high-res mode for static scenes
  • 15 fps mechanical shutter with good buffer depth
  • Highly detailed 8K video with no crop
  • Wide array of video resolutions, framerates and codecs
  • Subject-specific AF tracking modes
  • EVF is bright and highly-detailed
  • Effective in-body IS easily allows for handheld video and slow shutter speed stills
  • Comfortable hand grip with well-positioned controls
  • Impressive build quality
  • Shutter rated to 500K
  • Very good battery life
  • Tracking AF and face/eye detect AF reliability lags slightly behind the competition
  • Noticeable rolling shutter in most video capture modes, especially 8K
  • No general AF tracking option in video mode
  • Face detection in AF can be distracted by other faces in the scene
  • High-res mode requires a trip to your computer for assembly
  • Poor magnified live view experience
  • Command dial interface won’t suit all users
  • Not all XF lenses will deliver full promise of 40MP sensor

NA-XT5 Housing for Fujifilm X-T5 Camera
The X-T5, Fujifilm’s latest APS-C mirrorless hybrid camera, adds a list of significant upgrades when compared to its predecessors.  Some of the most noticeable improvements are a new 40.2MP sensor with a processor 2x as fast as the X-T4.  As still/video hybrids become more popular, Fuji is offering a high-resolution camera that can record internal 6.2K 10 bit 4:2:2 video or 12 bit ProRes RAW externally over HDMI in addition to shooting an impressive 20fps of continuous stills.

  • 20 fps shooting with AF (15 fps with mechanical shutter)
