Fujifilm released a video explaining the Fujifilm GFX Large Sensor. Below is a summary of the above video:
- Since the beginning of photography, various media types were used to capture the still image
- Sheet film is one of the first and it is still around today
- When 35mm was introduced about 100 years ago it was called miniature because they preferred sheet, 120, 220, 127, etc… these were called medium format since they fell between
- In today’s world, we largely do not have access to sensors that large so GFX should be considered large format today because it is bigger than 35mm and that is the standard size now
- Digital cameras in the GFX range can be called medium or large format since they are larger than 35mm
- The sensor on the GFX is 43x33mm with an image circle of 55mm diagonal
- GFX is 70% larger than 35mm full-frame or 1441mm squared
- You can put a lot more high-quality pixels that are bigger and better on the GFX format
- GFX100 is a fast large format camera that nothing competes with
- 210MB RAW files at 5 shots a second is unheard of before
- AF-C is very good and responsive
- 100% PDAF coverage
- Great dynamic range
- GFX100 has 14 stops of dynamic range
- Even JPEG holds all the values that you need
