Fujifilm X-M5
B&H Photo / Amazon Silver : Black / Moment / Adorama
The Fujifilm X-M5 has been out for a while now, but a unique website Space.com has published a review of the camera that might interest readers. If you are into astrophotography or want to get into it, the review might be worth a look. Otherwise, you can check out the summary below:
What they liked (especially for astro):
- Surprisingly strong night-sky results for a non-specialist APS-C camera, including recognizable shots of Orion (with M42 visible), the Big Dipper, Pleiades (M45), Beehive (M44), plus Sirius and Jupiter when using faster XF glass.
- Lens choice matters a lot: the reviewer got good constellation/deep-sky results with the kit lens, but stepping up to faster primes (e.g., XF 18mm f/1.4) revealed more detail.
- Portability and “grab camera” appeal: they found themselves reaching for it more than larger bodies for casual/street shooting because it’s so small.
Main drawbacks / limitations:
- High-ISO noise is the bottleneck: around ISO 2,000–2,500 they saw noticeable luminance and color noise on close inspection, and ISO 25,600 was described as very noisy and “largely unusable.”
- No EVF (electronic viewfinder): composition and shooting are screen-based only, which can be annoying for precision work.
- Big XF lenses can feel front-heavy on the tiny body (the kit lens balances best; larger zooms can feel unbalanced).
