Fujifilm releases new 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lens, “FUJINON LA30x7.8BRM”
Best-in-class 30x zoom combined with a compact design weighing just 190mm and weighing approximately 1.7kg
Newly developed drive unit provides powerful support for virtual production and remote shooting

FUJIFILM Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yoshikazu Goto) will release the FUJINON LA30x7.8BRM (hereinafter referred to as LA30x7.8) in late October. This 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lens combines a best-in-class *1 30x zoom with a compact design weighing just 190mm and approximately 1.7kg. The LA30x7.8 is a 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lens compatible with broadcast cameras equipped with 2/3-inch sensors. Covering a wide focal length range from a wide-angle 7.8mm to a telephoto 234mm, it boasts a compact and lightweight design with a total length of just 190mm and a weight of approximately 1.7kg. Equipped with a newly developed drive unit capable of detecting zoom, focus, and iris position information with high precision, it offers powerful support for virtual production and remote shooting. It also supports autofocus control commands from the camera. The rear focus system *2 reduces breathing, which occurs when the angle of view changes with focus adjustment, resulting in smooth movement and quiet operation, allowing for natural image expression.

In recent years, the rapid expansion of video streaming platforms has led to an increase in a wide variety of video content, including news, documentaries, sports, and live performances. Meanwhile, video production sites are struggling to keep up with the ever-increasing volume of content, creating a growing need for equipment that allows for efficient, high-quality video capture with a small team while keeping production costs down. In response to these needs, Fujifilm released the FUJINON LA16x8BRM 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lens in 2019, which has been well-received for its compact, lightweight, and cost-effective design. The
newly released LA30x7.8 is a completely new 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lens designed to meet the needs of video production sites. It boasts a best-in-class 30x zoom covering a wide focal length range from 7.8mm to 234mm, yet its compact and lightweight design (approximately 190mm long and weighing approximately 1.7kg) enhances mobility on set. In addition, the newly installed drive unit supports high-precision position detection for zoom, focus, iris, etc., making it ideal for virtual production, which combines subjects with virtual backgrounds, and remote shooting, which involves operating multiple cameras simultaneously. Panasonic will exhibit the newly released LA30x7.8 at IBC 2025, the international broadcasting equipment exhibition to be held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from September 12th to 15th, 2025. Panasonic will continue to utilize the advanced optical technology it has cultivated over many years to develop and provide high-performance broadcast lenses, cinema camera lenses, and accessories to meet the diversifying needs of video production sites.

2. Main Features

(1) Best-in-class 30x zoom combined with compact, lightweight design with a total length of approximately 190mm and a weight of approximately 1.7kg

  • By adopting a rear-focusing system and optimizing the lens configuration and control method by leveraging the unique lens design technology that we have cultivated over many years, we have achieved a compact and lightweight design with a total length of approximately 190 mm and a weight of approximately 1.7 kg, while maintaining a class-leading zoom magnification of 30x.
  • Although it is small and lightweight, it is capable of telephoto shooting from a wide angle of 7.8mm to 234mm, reducing the burden of carrying the camera on your shoulder and allowing you to capture a variety of scenes with just one lens.

(2) Equipped with a newly developed drive unit, it achieves high operability and functionality.

  • High-precision position detection is possible by outputting lens zoom, focus, and iris position information at 16-bit resolution. This makes it ideal for virtual production, where subjects are combined with virtual background images. It also supports remote shooting, where multiple cameras are operated simultaneously, enabling efficient operation by simplifying filming sets and reducing manpower.
  • Zooming from the wide-angle end to the telephoto end takes a maximum of 1.0 second and a minimum of 120 seconds. This allows you to accurately capture fast-moving subjects during live sports broadcasts, while slow, smooth zooming allows you to capture expressive footage during live music streaming.

(3) High optical performance compatible with 4K throughout the entire zoom range

  • Utilizing our proprietary optical simulation technology, we have achieved high-quality 4K image quality across the entire zoom range by suppressing all aberrations, such as loss of resolution at the periphery of the screen and color bleeding. In addition, our proprietary multi-layer coating process, “HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating),” has improved light transmittance and color reproduction.

(4) Features that support comfortable shooting

  • The drive unit is equipped with an electric flange focal length *3 adjustment function that can be adjusted with the push of a button, enabling speedy and efficient adjustment.
  • The macro function allows you to shoot as close as 5cm from the front lens by sliding the focus ring, enabling you to capture close-up shots of subjects that require close-ups, such as food and small items, in 4K high quality.
  • It responds to autofocus control commands from the camera side. The rear focus system suppresses breathing, which occurs when the angle of view changes during focus adjustment, resulting in smooth movement and quiet operation noise, enabling natural image expression.
