Yesterday CineD posted a short interview with Fujifilm about the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA, but today CineD released an additional interview as part of their podcast. You can read our summary below or check out the full interview above during the first 11 minutes of the podcast:
- The color is the biggest deal about the FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA
- Fujifilm calls it a filmmaking camera over a cinema camera
- Fujifilm collectively came up with the name
- Fujifilm has been in the industry for a long time and they started off making film
- Fujifilm also made cinema lenses so they know the industry
- The first Fujifilm camera to support 4k was the Fujifilm X-T2 around 2016
- Fujifilm has been putting more features in their cameras for a long time which led to hybrid cameras and the GFX
- The GFX ETERNA was thought of when the GFX100 was being used for video production
- The feedback that came from the GFX100 was that they wished Fujifilm made a video GFX
- The color is probably more important than the large format
- It is also important to have quality optics for the system like the GF 32-90mm f/3.5
- Of course, the large format sensor is desirable too
- Fujifilm is committed to this product range so they will invest in making lenses beyond PL mount, GF, Fujinon Premista, and Fujinon Cabrio lenses
- Pricing hasn’t been established yet but Fujifilm tried to make cameras affordable like the GFX that made medium format affordable
- The manager is most proud of how well the Fujifilm team works together
- Fujifilm announced the camera early so that they could get feedback to improve the final product
- If you use a GFX100II to film with then there are tons of accessories that you have to attach and the GFX ETERNA should disrupt your workflow less, which is why it has taken Fujifilm a long time to develop this camera
