Fujifilm Launches “FUJINON Lens XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR II”
– The new large-aperture standard zoom lens offers improved descriptive performance
– 37% lighter than its predecessor
– New function “Smooth aperture control” suited for movie recording

TOKYO, October 14, 2024 – FUJIFILM Corporation announces the launch of the “FUJINON Lens XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR II” (XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR II) globally from end of November 2024. The lens is a new lineup of the “XF lens” interchangeable lens lineup for the mirrorless digital camera X Series that offers outstanding image quality and compact size and weight.

The XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR II is the successor to the large-aperture standard zoom lens “FUJINON Lens XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR” and the flagship model of the “XF lens” series. It is approximately 37% lighter than its predecessor. Despite its large aperture, the lens offers excellent mobility. The lens configuration has been optimized to further improve descriptive performance. In addition, the “Aperture Click Switch,” which allows the user to switch between a click and de-click when operating the aperture ring, has been adopted for the first time in “XF lens”. With the de-click setting, the brightness changes smoothly, enabling more natural video capture.

The “XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR II” is a large-aperture standard zoom lens capable of shooting with a maximum aperture of F2.8 across the entire zoom range from a wide angle of 16mm (equivalent to 24mm in 35mm film format) to a medium telephoto distance of 55mm (equivalent to 84mm in 35mm film format). It is suitable for a wide range of still image shooting genres, such as nature and landscape photography with its high descriptive performance, and portraiture with its smooth and beautiful bokeh. In addition, the lightweight design with a weight of approximately 410g and new functions to support movie shooting expand the range of visual expression with the “XF lens”.

Product Features

(1) Large-aperture standard zoom lens with high descriptive performance

  • The entire zoom range from a wide-angle 16mm (equivalent to 24mm on a 35mm film format) to a medium telephoto 55mm (equivalent to 84mm on a 35mm film format) can be shot with a maximum aperture value of F2.8.
  • The lens construction consists of 16 elements in 11 groups, including four aspherical lenses, one super ED lens, and three ED lenses. High resolution is maintained from the center to the periphery, and chromatic aberration is suppressed despite the large aperture of the lens.
  • The evolution of the aspherical lens ultra-fine processing technology suppresses the occurrence of ring patterns compared to conventional models and expresses a smooth and beautiful bokeh effect.
  • Minimum focusing distance of 0.3m across the entire zoom range. Maximum magnification of 0.21x enables close-up photography.

(2) Compact and lightweight design for mobility

  • The latest lens processing technology has succeeded in making the component lenses thinner. Compared to conventional models, the overall lens length has been shortened by approximately 11mm, the volume has been downsized by approximately 37.8%, and the weight has been reduced by approximately 37.4% to around 410g.
  • The lens barrel is sealed in 12 places to make it dust resistant, water resistant, and resistant to temperatures as low as -10℃. In addition, the fluorine coating on the front lens provides excellent water and dirt repellency. Combined with the FUJIFILM X-H2S or other digital cameras designed to be dust resistant, water resistant, and resistant to low temperatures, the lens can be used with confidence for long hours of shooting in bad weather conditions.

(3) Conveniently designed for video recording

  • When the “Aperture Click Switch”*1 is set to CLICK, the amount of aperture movement can be intuitively grasped, making it suitable for still image shooting. When the switch is set to OFF, the brightness changes when adjusting the aperture become smoother, allowing you to shoot videos comfortably.
  • Suppresses angle-of-view variation (breathing) during focusing.

*1 The “Aperture Click Switch” requires a firmware update of the camera body. The current FUJIFILM X-H2S, FUJIFILM X-H2, FUJIFILM X-T5, FUJIFILM X-S20, and FUJIFILM X-T50 models will be firmware-updated in the future.

(4) High speed, quiet and highly accurate AF

  • The use of an inner focus system reduces the size and weight of the focus lens. Furthermore, the focus lens group is driven by a high-speed linear motor to achieve a high-speed, high-precision AF of approximately 0.02 seconds*2, ensuring that the decisive moment is never missed.

*2 Based on CIPA guidelines, internal measurement method. With FUJIFILM X-T4 mirrorless digital camera attached. AF speed at wide-angle end when phase detection AF is used and High Performance Mode is ON.
