Newsshooter has an interesting video centric interview with Fujifilm about the video capabilities of the Fujifilm GFX 50S. The camera seems quite capable for video, but newsshooters “extrapolates the sensor isn’t capable of 4k because of heat and pipeline issues.” This is a safe assumption since the Hasselblad X1D-50c cannot do 4k, but it appears to be a thinner camera… and in their write up about the interview they say it won’t do 4k, but the Leica S is capable of filming 4k and it’s an older camera, so maybe Fujifilm will surprise us since the representative never confirmed the statement. We know that the X-Processor Pro is capable of 4k, so it’s possible that they could provide crop 4k, if medium format 4k is not possible.
For now I would say expect amazing photos and potentially great 1080P medium format video, with some crazy rolling shutter, and hope for more. A lot of the information being posted at this point is second hand or worse so it should be taken with a grain of salt unless a video interview or official link is included. Everyone want’s to push Fujifilm for more, but they are being tight lipped and I think if they knew for sure what the video capabilities would be they would announce them. Similarly Fujifilm tends to announce specs about focusing speed and weight too, so they might even have multiple prototypes to choose from still. Hopefully we will know more after photoplus.
