B&H Photo Significantly Discounted The Bolt Cyclone PP-310 Compact Power Pack

Bolt

The Bolt Cyclone PP-310 should be compatible with the Nissin i60a for Fuji when it arrives in June and is $100 cheaper than the official Nissin PS8 power pack. If you are in the market for a flash battery pack the Bolt Cyclone is worth a look at $200 off.

“The Cyclone PP-310 Compact Power Pack for Portable Flashes is an affordable, reliable and lightweight power source that works with most hot shoe and handle mount flash units that have a high voltage input, such as Canon 600EX-RT, Nikon SB-910, Sony HVL-F60M and select Metz units.”

Many readers have expressed conflict between purchasing the Fujifilm 35mm f2 R WR and 35mm f1.4 R. The XF35F2 is a very modern lens, while the XF35F1.4 was state of the art when the X system launched. The Phoblographer wrote a short article about these two lenses a bit ago if you’re still trying to decided. I, among other readers, greatly prefer the Fujifilm 35mm f2 R WR, but you might feel differently after reading their article.

Packfilm FP-100C is Officially Dead…

FP100c
The effort to save packfilm received a final response from Fujifilm since we last visited the story and it is not the one fans have been hopping for.

“… we cannot now change our decision. Thus, we respectfully decline your proposals. “

Doc’s acceptance of Fujifilms final decision has lead him to found the ANALOG PRODUCT INSTITUTE (API), with the stated goal of developing new approaches for making analog instant packfilm and creating a distribution network for this new analog film. There is still a lot of Fujifilm FP-100C on the market for reasonable prices at  AmazonB&H Photo, and Adorama; so if you hope to shoot packfilm in the future, it is time to stock up now, because new film might be significantly more expensive than what is currently on the market.

Further, the effort to save packfilm has grown beyond the initial savepackfilm initiative. Thanks to a reader tip, we are now aware that CatLABS claims they will stop at nothing to produce new packfilm; so two groups are now working toward the same goal. Maybe the death of Fujifilm FP-100C will lead to two alternative packfilm alternatives if photographers are lucky.

Exclusive Interview with Dr. Prenzel from Meyer-Optik-Görlitz

trioplan 50 dh

A few weeks ago a representative from Meyer-Optik-Görlitz contacted us to see if we were interested in interviewing Dr. Wolf-Dieter Prenzel about Meyer-Optik-Görlitz’s new Trioplan f2.9/50. Dr. Prezel was Chief Engineer at the original Meyer-Optik-Görlitz company and is currently the Chief Technology Officer.

Not being familiar with the brand, I tried doing some research on the web in advance but came up with a mixture of fact and misinformation about this brand that’s been in hibernation throughout the transition to digital. Now it’s back, with a variety of compelling lenses to offer. So, I hope you find the following interview informative, and feel free to contact me if you have any personal experience with Meyer-Optik-Görlitz. I find the brand to be a compelling one, and think it’s important to preserve past and present history on the web whenever possible. Read More »
