Five Fujifilm Products Just Won The Internationally Prestigious “iF Design Award”

Five Fujifilm products just won the internationally prestigious “iF Design Award”. Further in this announcement there is FIRM verification that the Fuji X-Pro 2 will be released on March 3rd so, hopefully, there will not be anymore delays. Congratulations Fuji!

Press Release:
FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) has been awarded the distinguished “iF Design Award 2016”, for five of its products, including the premium mirrorless digital camera “FUJIFILM X-Pro2” and the broadcast zoom lens “FUJINON UA80x9,” which boasts optical performance compatible with 4K cameras.

The iF Design Award is an international design award launched in 1953 by the iF International Forum Design in Hanover, Germany. It is one of the world’s three most prestigious design awards, alongside Germany’s “Red Dot Design Award” and the United States’ “IDEA.” The five products were awarded in recognition of not only exterior design, but also their advanced product performance and ease of use.

Fujifilm is proud to have five of its products chosen for the iF Design Award out of a large number of entries submitted from across the world, and will continue to achieve excellence in product development.

Fujinon XF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS Demo

Fuji released a great demonstration of how affective their O.I.S. system is in the new XF100-400 that’s worth giving a look. The results are impressive and mirror my experience with this lens.

Fujinon XF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR Preview: Palm Beach Zoo

_DSF2010

Friday I took just the Fujinon XF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS to the Palm Beach Zoo to see how it shot and it worked well for a small city zoo. I setup an album on 500px to share my photos as I prepare them for the review. I will be shooting Renaissance Fair this weekend so follow me if you want to see the bulk of my test photos before the review. Read More »

The Markowitz Fine Art Gallery Presents Markus Klinko

L1020808
Last night I was able to attend the opening of the Markus Klinko event sponsored by Fuji at the Markowitz Fine Art Gallery. It was a great event, and all of the proceeds are going to cancer research. The prints were large and the colors were brilliant; it’s worth checking out if you’re in town. The exhibition will only be on display from February 26th through mid-March, 2016. Read More »

Potential Cause of The X-Pro 2 Delay Found?

Light

Capture from first X-Pro 2 Sample

Optyczne.pl has reported that they found a potential issue with the production X-Pro 2s they received, which might explain the initial delay. When doing exposures of 3 minutes long without light entering the camera, there is what appears to be light entering on the left side of the frame and the phase detection pixels become visible when shooting above 3200 ISO. The issue is significantly more noticeable in RAW files than in JPEG, and these aren’t normal shooting conditions so I am not sure what prompted the test.  After reporting the issue to Fuji, they were sent another camera with a newer 1.00 firmware and it somewhat corrected the issue, but not entirely. This shouldn’t affect most users, but you can read more about it on optyczne.pl.

Micro-Contrast Matters

L1009134

Today I came across an excellent article discussing micro-contrast by Yannick Khong. In it he discusses how sharpness is being over-emphasized by buyers and I couldn’t agree more. For a short period of time I was really wrapped up in technical reviews; before I started demoing and reviewing equipment on my own. Read More »
