Lens Packs  sent me some review samples, of their X-mount quick change caps to use while I am working on my X-Pro 2 review. So far I am impressed with their build quality and the representative has been helpful answering my questions, but now that I am starting to use them daily I want to know if readers have any questions about these that I can answer.

Record-high nine Fujifilm imaging products win the Red Dot Design Award the premium mirrorless camera “FUJIFILM X-Pro2” and instant camera “instax mini 90”

March 30, 2016

FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) is proud to announce that a record-high nine of its products, including the premium “FUJIFILM X-Pro2” mirrorless camera and the “Instax Mini 90” instant film camera, have won the Red Dot Design Award 2016, a product design award program organized by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen based in Essen, Germany.

The Red Dot Design Award is an international product design award launched in 1955. It examines products released within the past two years, and they are judged in nine criteria including degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, ecological compatiblity and durability. It is among the world’s most prestigious design award, along with the “iF design award” in Germany and the “International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA)” in the United States of America.

Encouraged by the selection of numerous Fujifilm products for the Red Dot Design Award out of a large number of entries from across the world, the company will continue to strive for developing excellent products.

Getting Creative With Product Photography

I have been spending a lot of time researching product photography lately, because it is an area I need to improve to better present my equipment reviews on the web. While doing so, I came across a novel approach on The Fujifilm Blog that is worth sharing. I am often amazed at the various methods photographers have come up with to accomplish product photography inexpensively, but the Fujifilm Blog’s method is probably the quickest/easiest setup I have come across yet.

Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R vs Leica 50mm f/1.4 Summilux M ASPH Video Results

Brielle Murch

Surprisingly everyone that ventured a guess on the site, in person and on Youtube, did so correctly. The Brielle Murch video is indeed the one filmed with a Leica 50mm f/1.4 Summilux M ASPH. Surprisingly, no one mentioned the different exposure as being the primary reason for picking one video over the other. Youtube introduced more compression than I expected, and it greatly diminished the differences between these two lenses, yet the “Leica Look” shined through. I considered presenting screen captures for comparison so that you can see the small differences between these lenses, but after going through several hundred frames of each video I really can’t pick which would be the best/most fair/most accurate. Generally the Summilux looks better, but sometimes the Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R has an edge.

To me the biggest advantage of all between these lenses comes from handling. The Summilux manually focuses on the X-Pro2 very well, through the EVF or on the LCD, which makes the focus by wire nature of the XF56 very noticeable and off-putting. The Summilux has a level of sharpness to it through the EVF and LCD that the XF56 does not, which makes achieving critical focus significantly easier and faster. While I didn’t change the focal point in these videos, I imagine tracking a subject manually with the XF56 would be futile, because the image looks very flat when it is in focus or close to in focus.
