Damian Brown posted his Fujinon GF 80mm f/1.7 review. You can watch the video above or check out the bullet points below:
- 3rd stops that are solid and audible up to f/22
- 70cm is the close focus distance
- weighs 795g
- Nice lens hood that fits well
- 12 elements in 9 groups 1 ASPH and 2 Super ED
- The 35mm equivalent of 63mm in 35mm with an angle of view of 37.7 degrees
- Great short portrait/tele lens
- Excellent first-class build quality
- Fastest AF lens in the GFX system
- The 110mm f/2 set the bar very high
- The 80mm f/1.7 is more standard
- Good compression
- DC Motors so there is room for AF speed improvement
- Face and eye detection is only fairly fast and reliable
- Doesn’t really hunt in low light
- Testing was done on GFX100S
- Image quality is excellent with plenty of sharpness where it counts
- Corner sharpness falls off, but the lens is designed for portraits so that is fine
- MTF charts back up what he is seeing
- Lens has some character that works well for portraits
- f/1.7 is great on the GFX
- Great faithful colors
- Chromatic aberration is minimal
- Flaring is low
- Great subject separation with lots of pop and appeal
- Torn between this and the GF110mm but he prefers the 110mm even though the 80mm is more versatile
- The GFX performs super well with the GF80mm but it can get better via firmware updates in the future
