DPRTV: 10 Years of X-Mount – Fujifilm X-Pro1
DPRTV is celebrating Fujifilm’s 10th anniversary with a current review of the Fujifilm X-Pro1, but they probably should have included the X100 since it really started it all. You can still get a Fujifilm X-Pro1 on Amazon if you’re interested in trying one out. Paired with the XF35mm f/1.4 the X-Pro1 gives the closest approximation to the Leica look of any non-Leica camera I have ever used. I also included the camera store X-Pro1 review below.
Key Takeaways:
- Originally didn’t like the hybrid optical viewfinder Chris now finds it enjoyable
- The vintage look has served them well over the last decade
- X-T opened up the system to more shooters
- Back panel is not bad even today
- Old X-Trans files are so much easier to edit today
- X-Trans helped with a lot of issues that Bayer sensors cause
- Fujifilm developed a reputation for great color with the X-Pro1
- Not a lot of film simulations and kind of funny classic simulations are on newer cameras ( side note it would be funny to have an X-Pro1 simulation setting in the future)
- Really impressed with how accurate the hybrid viewfinder overlay is
- Single-point AF and focus and recompose is the best way to use this camera
- The video was horrible and now Fujifilm captures some of the best video
- X-Pro1 still feels like a current camera in a lot of ways
- 21 firmware updates issues for this camera that added features like peaking even years after release
- Fujifilm needed to fix a lot out of the box in the past but that is no longer the case
- X-Pro1 was a niche camera intended for certain kinds of photography, but now they dominate APS-C and Medium Format
- Wasn’t a fan of the X-Pro1 in the past, but had a blast shooting it today
