Fujifilm X-T3 Firmware 3.20 Tests: Better Eye Tracking and More?

The Fujifilm X-T3 and even X-T2 have been beloved since their launch, but Fujifilm AF has been lacking compared to competitors like Sony. Firmware 3.20 which was released the other day seems to bring us one step closer to cameras like the a7 with a more sticky eye AF, but Sony is also getting better.

If you have used Sony Real-Time AF before than you know how far Sony has come, but I think Fujifilm’s most recent update is getting us close to Sony’s AF system before the Real-Time AF update. Up until the release of the X-T3 and GFX100 I have kept a Sony around for demanding AF situations, but I now feel ok with just Fujifilm cameras in most demanding situations.

I do not expect Fujifilm to improve AF much more than it already has with the X-T4 coming, but the improvements and reliability of Fujifilm’s new AF system might be a hint of what is to come. We do not have a full set of X-T4 specs yet, but I expect it to close the gap with Sony Realtime AF similar to how the X-T3 has closed the gap with Sony’s previous AF system.

There is also some kind ISO 3.20 video testing below.
