Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD: B&H Photo / Amazon
The Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 is a good value that is currently on sale on Amazon, which makes it an even better value. As usual, you can watch the full PP review above or you can check out the excerpts below:
- Very lightweight
- Nice weather sealing
- 335g 0.74lb 1/6 of a Noct
- Very easy to carry around
- 67mm filter thread
- Plast lens hood that is hard to line up
- The manual focus ring is kind of sloppy without much dampening
- No AF/MF switch
- No aperture ring
- No OIS
- Great for macro 1:4 reproduction but you will need to remove the hood because you’re 6 inches from the sensor
- 11mm up close the corner gets a little funky
- Stepping motor so AF is very fast for photos and video
- Has a fair amount of breathing
- Flare is well controlled
- Some ghosting when you stop down
- Sun stars aren’t great because they are mushy and blurry
- Bokeh is quite round without much cats eye, but there is an onion ring effect inside so the bokeh isn’t super pretty
- Very little chromatic aberrations
- 11mm f/2.8 lots of detail in the center and it doesn’t improve much going down to f/5.6
- 11mm f/2.8 corners can be a little soft but they improve when you stop down to f/5.6
- 20mm f/2.8 lots of detail in the center and it doesn’t improve much going down to f/5.6
- 20mm f/2.8 corners can be a little soft but they improve when you stop down to f/5.6
- Compared to the Fujifilm 10-24m f/4 the Fujifilm is similarly sharp in the center at 10mm and 11mm, but the Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 is sharper wide open in the center
- Compared to the Fujifilm 10-24m f/4 the Fujifilm is sharper at 24mm than 20mm on the Tamron in the corner while being similar in the center
- Tamron is a little better wide and Fujifilm is a little better at telephoto
- The Fujifilm 8-16mm f/2.8 isn’t really necessary unless you need the wider angle
