BlackMagic RAW and Fujifilm GFX100/GFX100S Plus ProRes RAW vs BRAW

Fujifilm only recently added support for the Blackmagic Video Assist 7″ 12G HDR and Blackmagic Video Assist 5″ 12G HDR, but there hasn’t been much said until now. For those interested Fujifilm added a brief video to its YouTube showing off some of the advantages of shooting 12-bit Blackmagic RAW with the Fujifilm GFX100S. The above video claims that  Blackmagic RAW is lightweight and very easy to work with, but I would have liked to have seen a true comparison with Apple ProRes so I included some videos below under the Make-up is session video.

I personally prefer ProRes RAW and Atomos Recorders which are currently on sale, but if your workflow includes DaVinci Resolve then BRAW might be best for you. There are some slight differences between the formats that will matter to pixel peepers, but pixel-peeping frames of video isn’t a good use of time for most since the motion of the frames hides a lot. If I were picking a RAW format of choice for a video my decision would be based on my chosen editor, which at this time is Final Cut Pro so ProRes RAW is ideal for me.
