Make The Sirui 50mm X-Mount f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33X Wider and Reduce Its Minimal Focus Distance With These Adapters

Anamorphic lenses are very unique and until recently very expensive, but now that the Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33X is available everywhere (B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama) videographers are learning to push the lens even further than before. There are a few useful accessories that you can mount to the from 67mm filter thread that will make this lens more versatile.

The first adapters you can use on the Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33X is a 67mm front filter thread 0.7x adapter that turns the 50mm into a 35mm f/1.8 Anamorphic lens. These adapters aren’t easier to come by and the ones used below used to be available on (B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama) but are out of stock or discontinued, but Amazon has one used that might be the right size. Adorama also has a 0.8x available here and even a 0.6x adapter here, but there is no evidence about how they perform.

You can also reduce the minimum focus distance from 85cm by adding a diopter to the front element. You can find diopters at B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama and they will let you allow the Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33X get almost macro like widescreen performance and there are a lot of affordable options.

Most of the experimentation has been done with full-frame cameras so far so the performance should be even better on APS-C cameras since that is what this lens is intended to be used on. I hope to pick one up soon for testing myself because I love the look of anamorphic, but for now, I am going to enjoy my Fujifilm X-T4 that just came in.
