Fujifilm XF16 f/1.4 Compared to Sony’s 24mm f/1.4 G Master is Another Example of Fujifilm’s Superior Professional Value Position Today

The Fujifilm XF16 f/1.4 is a fantastic lens that comes highly recommended by almost everyone that uses it, which is why the announcement and praise of the Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM is a bit surprising. Fujifilm already made an equivalent lens that is smaller and lighter than the G Master and it is even great for astrophotography. While Sony has impressed me with their low price high-performance bodies they are still not offering good performance for the price, which is why the Fujifilm X-T3 won so many awards last year.

A Sony a7III + Sony 24mm f/1.4GM will set you back $3,396 while the Fujifilm X-T3 + Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR costs $2,498 a savings of $898. The totals can go up and down a few hundred from MSRP, but Sony still cannot become close enough in price to justify the expense. This only becomes worse when you add additional equivalent glass which can cost between one-hundred to one-thousand dollars more from Sony.

You can certainly get sharp stars throughout your frame wide open with the XF16mm, which is something that Sony is trying to push hard through their ambassadors. I will likely try to pick one up myself for my Sony a7RIII in the future, but I still prefer shooting astrophotography on Fujifilm cameras and can’t wait to find a faster for my GFX to shoot Astrophotography with.
