The other day I was shooting a dance recital and before it began I walked around with my Instax Square SQ10 shooting pictures of the little girls with their friends and printing photos for everyone that wanted one. It was great watching their confusion as the first photo came out of the camera because none of them had ever seen a Polaroid type camera before. Many of them tried to pull the print out before it finished because they were so excited to get/see a print, but then they were puzzled by the white sheet. When it developed before their eyes the variety of expressions was definitely worth the price of admission.
If I only ever use my Instax SQ10 to give young children the Polaroid experience for the first time, then I feel that it was money well spent. I love getting children excited about photography. They take pictures for granted thanks to smartphones and some may never print. I think we should all do our part to change this going forward. I love digital presentation, but there will always be a place for print and children should experience the joy of printed photos.
