Sigma just announced 3 contemporary prime lenses for X-mount the Sigma 16mm, 30mm, and 56mm f/1.4. All of Sigma’s lenses are light, compact, metal, and have some weather sealing, but the Fujinon WR lenses are probably sealed a little better and most Fujinon lenses have aperture rings. All are known commodities with good image quality, but Sigma may make more inroads with Fujifilm photographers by releasing superzooms that Fujifilm doesn’t currently have. Below is a summary of this limited comparison:
Sigma 16mm f/1.4 vs Fujinon XF16mm f/1.4
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 vs Fujinon XF33mm f/1.4
Sigma 56mm f/1.4 vs Fujinon XF56mm f/1.2
AF speed wasn’t tested because these are preproduction lenses so DPRTV stuck to image quality and price point and Sigma is certainly providing a lot of bang for the buck. DPRTV also didn’t mention that Fujifilm is expected to refresh the 56mm f/1.2 in the future. Personally, I am sticking with my Fujinon lenses, but if Sigma ever releases some superzooms I will buy every last one.
