First Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 Review Posted
Voigtlander generally makes great mechanical lenses for the price and DC.Watch posted their review of the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 the other day. You can read part 1 and part 2 of their review to find out or see the bullet points below:
- The Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 is heavier than the XF35mmF1.4 R and XF35mmF2 R WR
- The optical system of this lens is a double gauss type consisting of 8 elements in 6 groups or 8-lens style
- Improved resolution over NOKTON Classic 35mm F1.4, but still soft
- Lots of character if you like that kind of thing
- Going from f/1.2 to f/1.4 provides a significant improvement
- Easier to use from f/2 up
- There is a considerable improvement in resolution by f/2.8
- Fairly high gradation reproducibility
- Straight lines are straight
- Despite its compact size, it seems that there is no compromise in optical performance
- Great contrast between light and dark
- Smooth roll-off of bokeh
- The bokeh makes the sensor feel larger
- Some chromatic aberration can be found, but it isn’t beyond fixing
- Decent for shooting into the sun
- Nice and compact design
- The electronics only work with cameras that can communicate with Fujinon MKX lenses
- The aperture is by the body instead of on the front of the lens so you can get confused sometimes and change the aperture instead of focus
- Very enjoyable to shoot
- The 30cm close focus distance is nice
- Focus peaking works well with this lens
