Fuji Guys on F-Log and LUT

It took Fujifilm a few years to really dial in their video performance, which only started to get good around the release of the Fujifilm X-T2 with the introduction of F-Log. Since then Fujifilm has added features like RAW video to cameras like the GFX100, which represents the next logical step beyond F-Log, but until it is more widely adopted F-Log will likely remain the standard for most videographers.

• Log footage lets you record very flat image data that is ideal of post-processing giving the maximum flexibility in post
• Log helps you to get the max dynamic range that the camera can create
• F-Log is captured in Rec. 2020
• White balance can be hard to get right with log because the image is so washed out so it is best to dial in white balance manually in advance
• Fujifilm provides LUT that will help you to quickly turn a log image into a usable Eterna color profile based video
• Fujifilm’s latest cameras have F-Log assist that will load a profile in to help dial in your capture settings giving you a Rec. 709 preview
• If you are using an external recorder you can load LUTs onto the recorder
• There are creative and technical LUTs
• Most editors allow you to load LUTs
• Recording with Eterna is the fastest way to make a video, but if the situation is high dynamic range use F-Log
