Sick of Your Fujifilm X-T4 Overheating? Try an Insulin Ice Pack and Rubber Bands?

A person on youtube was so sick of his Fujifilm X-T4 overheating that he attached an insulin ice pack to the back of his X-T4 and got some surprisingly good results. I would not suggest you try this hack unless you’re desperate because it could cause condensation to form inside your camera, but this hack works surprisingly well.

I’m curious if we will see a good heat sync fan combination in the future that is effective because that would be far safer than using an ice pack, but if the X-T4 is sealed really well condensation might not be too much of an issue. The camera may get too hot for any less extreme solutions to work, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone figures out a good workaround soon.

1st run with battery grip

17:13 minutes run time

– 4k 60

– 120 SS

– 1600 iso

– DIS + OIS + IBIS

– EVF Boost – frame rate

– LCD brightness MAX (5)

– H.264 LongGOP MOV

– Recording to one single SD card not dual

2nd test Normal internal battery same settings as above

19:03 min run time

– 4k 60

– 120 SS

– 1600 iso

– DIS + OIS + IBIS

– EVF Boost – frame rate –

LCD brightness MAX (5)

– H.264 LongGOP MOV

– Recording to one single SD card not dual

3rd test with cold pack

34:09 record time

– 4k 60

– 120 SS

– 1600 iso

– Digital Stab, Optical stabe

– EVF Boost – frame rate

– LCD brightness MAX (5)

– H.264 LongGOP MOV

– Recording to one single SD card not dual

4th test , cold pack (updated to new firmware 1.02)

50:01 mins long

– v 1.02

– 4k 60

– 120 SS

– 1600 iso

– IBIS + OIS

– EVF Boost – off

Test 5 no cold pack

21:03 record time

– 4k 60

– 120 SS

– 1600 iso

– Digital Stab, IBIS, Optical stabilazation

– EVF Boost – off

21mins

Test 6

– digital stab off no cold pack 17: 57

– Economy mode screen

– DIS is off – IBIS + OIS

– No ice pack

– Waited about 1 full hour before testing this one again, maybe camera was still hot from before which is why it lasted a few mins less? Not sure

Test 7

– DIS back on, ice pack

50:26 record time

– Small rig cage added to this test (could potentially cool camera even more if cage was put in the freezer)

Test 8

– (
51:43) record time

– NO small rig cage

– EVF boost RESOLUTION back on by accident

– Home was about 3-5 degrees cooler than previous tests

OTHER THOUGHTS

– Swapping out a second new cold ice pack mid-shoot will probably extend run time even further

– Freezing the small rig cage would probably help a tiny bit

– Doesn’t seem like digital stabilization and or EVF boost effects battery life much? Deff not enough data for any statistical significance. If anyone else runs some tests please leave your results in the comments 🙂
