Astrophotography Coronavirus (COVID-19) Quarantine Photography Project in Progress

Many are now practicing social distancing or quarantining themselves during this public health crisis so photography jobs are becoming difficult to put together. If you haven’t been able to shoot lately than now might be a good time to practice landscape or astrophotography with astrophotography season upon us. I personally plan to practice social distancing by putting many miles between me and population centers by shooting in the Florida Everglades since the keys have been closed.

So I grabbed a Venus Optics Laowa Magic Format Converter MFC (Nikon F to Fujifilm G) for my Fujifilm GFX100 and the Venus Optics Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D for Nikon F and Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC Wide-Angle for Nikon. I also grabbed some other gear, but I will cover that at a later date.

The magic format converter does seem to work very well with both of the lenses that I am using it with, but I haven’t had a chance to do any resolution or distortion testing with them yet and probably won’t before I shoot Astro. The Fujifilm GFX’s biggest weakness at this time is a lack of fast glass that is necessary for shooting under certain conditions like Astro.

I hope you are all being safe out there and that you follow the guidelines of health officials to minimize the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19), but it can be nice to get out of the house for more than a walk and many forget to explore the great outdoors in their day to day lives so let’s all take some time to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us in the world while we have the time and continue practicing social distancing responsibly.
