Fujifilm GFX 100: Birth of a Camera by Cinima5D Part 2
Cinema5D got an inside look at the production of the Fujifilm GFX100 and you can view part one here. Part two takes place in the spring of 2019 with them receiving a prototype camera. Below are excerpts:
- Had an error the first time they started the prototype camera
- Went on another factory tour in Taiwan
- They show the sensor assembly in a clean room
- Followed by the CMOS and IBIS being assembled and put in the body by hand
- One person assembles the entire top of the camera
- All of the buttons and dials are checked by hand
- It’s kind of interesting they put the adhesive tape on the camera body before applying the leather
- The first batch of GFX100 produced are shown at the end of the tour then back to Toyko
- Cinima5D had to wait for a firmware update to shoot their prototype camera
- Only had the prototype for 12 hours and they were given 3-batteries
- Lots of preproduction video
- The camera wasn’t 100% ready, but the potential was already there
- Coverage of the prep for the launch event
- Toshihisa Lida was there and said he hoped to get “completely drunk” once the event concluded to release some stress
- The day of the launch Cinima5D ran into Masazumi Imai right before the announcement and he compared it to giving birth
- Everyone had some Saki after the event concluded to celebrate
